Family affected by Kawasaki Disease encourages families to learn more

Julie Muenchow and her husband, Stephen (formerly of Silver Lake), encourage families to learn more about Kawasaki disease after their own son, Gavin, was diagnosed in 2016.
The fourth annual National Kawasaki Disease Awareness Day took place on Thursday, Jan. 26.

McLeod County GOP caucus sites announced

The locations for the McLeod County Republican caucuses, set for Feb. 6 at 7 p.m., have been announced.
Those who are eligible to vote in the 2018 election will have the opportunity to cast a vote in the gubernatorial preference ballot, which is a non-binding straw poll. Resolutions are also considered, and delegates are appointed for the county convention.

City looks at options for funding wastewater treatment improvements

The Glencoe City Council, city administration and Plato city staff — including Mayor Bob Becker, Plato City Council Member Stacy Sohns, City Clerk Gerri Scott and Josh Eckstein, engineer with Bolton & Menk — heard an updated presentation from Karen Cavett of Short, Elliot Hendrickson (SEH), Inc., about the financial implications of the wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) project and the wastewater rates necessary for the $22.3 million project.

Storm water topic for city committee

The Glencoe City Council heard an update from John Rodeberg of Short Elliott Hendrickson (SEH), Inc., on the central storm sewer project and the possible options to alleviate flooding near Judd Avenue and First Evangelical Lutheran Church at its finance committee meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 24.
Rodeberg answered a few more questions the City Council members had about the central storm sewer project design.

Lilienthal on fall dean’s list

Payton Lilienthal, daughter of Teri and Darren Lilienthal of Plato, was named to the fall semester dean’s list at Crown College in St. Bonifacius.

Boy born to Fabel, Alexander

Cassandra Fabel and Darcus Alexander of Texas City, Texas, announce the birth of a son Dartavian Kenneth-Marquis Alexander, who arrived Jan. 21, 2018, at Glencoe Regional Health Services. Dartavian weighed 7 pounds, 12 ounces, and was 201⁄2 inches long at birth. He joins siblings Dylan, Dane, Deondra, Devon and Daevionne. Grandparents are Craig and Lori Fabel of Plato and Barbara Gates of Texas City, Texas.

Locals named to dean’s list

Samantha Good, Morgan Harpel and Melissa Mallak, all of Glencoe, were named to the fall 2017 dean’s list at the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth. To be named to the dean’s list, students must achieve a grade point average of 3.75 or better on a 4.0 scale.

O’Dell on fall chancellor’s list

Lisa O’Dell, an accounting/management student from New Auburn, was named to the fall semester chancellor’s list at the University of Minnesota – Crookston. To qualify for the chancellor’s list, a student must complete a minimum of 12 credits while attaining a 4.0 grade point average.

Schmitt named to dean’s list

Mary Schmitt, an elementary education major, was named to the University of Wisconsin – River Falls fall semester dean’s list. To be named to the list, a student must achieve a grade point average of at least 3.5 on a 4.0 scale.
