GSL students named to CMBDA honor bands

On Jan. 13, three students from the Glencoe-Silver Lake (GSL) Lakeside Elementary School Intermediate Band, three students from the GSL Junior High Bands, and four students from the GSL High School Bands attended the Central Region Honor Band of the Minnesota Band Directors Association.

GSL announces dates, times for one act play

The dates and times for Glencoe-Silver Lake High School’s one act play have been set. Director Patrick Hiltner and his cast and crew will present the play “Cagebirds” by David Campton at a public performance on Thursday, Jan. 25 at 6 p.m., at the GSL High School Auditorium. Note the early start time. The cost for attending the performance is $6 for adults or $4 for students.
On Monday, Jan. 29, GSL will compete in the Section 4A sub-section competition at Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted High School. There will be five schools competing, with GSL scheduled to perform at 6:30 p.m.

Girl born to Engelsmeier family

Austin and Jessica Engelsmeier of Brownton announce the arrival of a daughter, Ellie Eva, born Jan. 15, 2018, at Glencoe Regional Health Services. Ellie weighed 7 pounds, 12 ounces, and was 20-3/4 inches long at birth. She joins siblings Easton, Emma and Addison. Grandparents are Jim and Deb Martinson of Cokato and Kathleen and the late John Engelsmeier of Hutchinson.

Daughter born to Harveys

Ryan and Kjirsten Harvey of Plato announce the birth of a daughter, Olivia Kate Harvey, who arrived Jan. 11, 2018, at Glencoe Regional Health Services. Olivia weighed 8 pounds, 15 ounces, and was 20-1/2 inches long at birth. She joins sisters Abby and Maggie. Grandparents are Dennis and Kathy Harvey of Norwood Young America and Mike and Kari Fletcher of Mankato.

Esser graduates from NDSU

Tyler Ray Esser of Stewart graduated from North Dakota State University (NDSU) in fall 2017. Esser earned a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering and Management degree.

Locals named to fall dean’s list

Area students who were named to the Normandale Community College fall dean’s list include, from Glencoe: Anna Marijke Nelson and Mason Trippel; and, from Silver Lake: Melissa Will.

Ridgewater fall dean’s list

Ridgewater College, with campuses in Hutchinson and Willmar, recently released its fall 2017 dean’s list.

Welch named to honors list

Samantha Welch of Glencoe was named to the Concordia University, Nebraska, fall honors list. The top 25 percent of undergraduate students who complete at least 12 credit hours qualify for the honors list.

Girl born to Lafayette couple

Amber Smith and Nathan Nutter of Lafayette announce the arrival of a daughter, Haven Geri Nutter, born Jan. 17, 2018, at Glencoe Regional Health Services. Haven weighed 7 pounds, 7 ounces, and was 20 inches long. She joins siblings Caitlyn, Caidyn, Gracelyn and Autumn. Grandparents are Kim Woodford and Pat Woodford of Glencoe and Dawn Nutter of Gibbon.

Son born to Stewart couple

Kathryn and Jason Holker of Stewart announce the arrival of a son, Emmitt Jason Holker, born Jan. 17, 2018, at Glencoe Regional Health Services. Emmitt weighed 7 pounds, 3 ounces, and was 20-1/4 inches long at birth. Grandparents are Pamela and Brian Thickpenny of Monticello.
