It’s time to break our electronics addiction

The Chronicle’s online poll the past two weeks revolved around the issue of electronics and distracted driving. The first poll indicated that people feel that distracted driving is a serious enough issue that punishment should equal that of driving while impaired. The second poll asked how often people use their electronic devices while driving.

Superintendent explains project cost overrun

To the Editor:
As reported at the School Board work session last week and the in paper, the GSL building project is just under $1.4 million over budget. This certainly wasn’t welcomed news to the district. We have a great facility, but it cost us a lot more than we thought.

Why can’t someone besides county pay for trails?

To the Editor:
This letter is in response to Hutchinson City Councilor, Steve Cook, who disputed my letter of March 7.

County Board votes 4-1 against integrating tri-county health group

The McLeod County Board of Commissioners voted 4-1 Tuesday to govern the Meeker-McLeod-Sibley Community Health Services by delegation, rather than approving a full integration of the three counties’ health services departments into one agency.
The primary reason seemed to be a desire for local control and, as Commissioner Doug Krueger said, “a way to keep the three counties together in this.”

Show arena expansion planned

The McLeod County Fairgrounds will, hopefully, be seeing a much-needed addition to the existing show arena building. The proposed addition features an 80-by-100-foot multi-purpose extension that adds desperately needed space and a concrete walkway for accessibility to the new building. The estimated cost of the project is $150,000. Around two-thirds of that will be covered by private donors, some of which has already been donated and some of which is anticipated.

Tagus Avenue hot topic at County Board meeting

The McLeod County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday approved a quote of $18,389 to mill off the surface of about a mile of Tagus Avenue west of Lake Marion in preparation of another cement stabilization project to prepare the road bed for a seal coat.
That stretch of road has sparked disappointment by area residents after an experimental prime-and-seal project, designed to give the gravel road a somewhat tarred surface, fell apart. A later cement stabilization project also had issues.
