Brownton falls to Huskies

The Brownton Bruins lost their second game in a row on Friday, May 11, with a 5-3 setback at Hutchinson.
Brownton trailed 2-0 after the first inning, but rallied to take a 3-2 lead with solo runs in the second, third and fifth innings. Mason Goettl’s leadoff home run in the top of the fifth put the Bruins ahead for the first time.
However, Hutchinson stormed back for three runs in the bottom of the seventh to take the two-run lead it held until the game’s final out.

Blue Jays eke by Winsted

The Plato Blue Jays improved to 2-0 on the season by means of a 4-2 win over visiting Winsted on Sunday, May 13.
Winsted took a 2-0 lead in the fifth inning with a pair of unearned runs off starting pitcher Adam Prehn. However, the Blue Jays battled back to knot the game at 2-all in the bottom of the sixth.
Two more runs in the bottom of the eighth gave reliever Chris Odegaard his first win of the season after the hosts held off the Wildcats in the top of the ninth.

Softball surges to near .500

In the blink of an eye, the Glencoe-Silver Lake softball team’s 2018 campaign has rocketed by, with the regular season already drawing to a close this week.
However, as the pre-playoff slate nears a close, the Panthers are playing some of their best softball and began this week just one game short of .500.
GSL went 5-2 last week, splitting one doubleheader before sweeping another, and then before winning both contests in a tournament at Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted on Saturday, May 12.

Panthers enter final week of regular season at 12-3

A 4-1 stretch last week saw the Glencoe-Silver Lake baseball team up its record to 12-3 on the spring, with the regular season already drawing to a close this week.
“I’m one thankful coach,” coach Dean Schwirtz said.
Schwirtz had many reasons to be thankful during this abbreviated, yet successful season.
As the postseason already nears, his team is playing some dandy baseball – and showing few, if any ills from a packed-in schedule.
