Brownton council OKs temporary financing for project

The Brownton City Council approved temporary funding for its utility and street project, which will pay bills until the long-term loan from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development can be accessed.
The council met in a special session Thursday night with Shannon Sweeney of David Drown & Associates, the city’s financial consultant.
Sweeney said that while grant money for the project can be accessed as the bills come in, the long-term loan will not be available until the project is substantially completed.

Trailblazer board holds brief meeting

In a brief meeting Tuesday morning, the Trailblazer Transit Joint Powers Board heard that ride efficiency is down for the transit system.
Executive Director Gary Ludwig said the main culprit is the dispatching software, although some rides are also longer as the service expands into Wright County.
“The software is really struggling to keep up with the ride requests,” said Ludwig. “It sometimes takes up to two minutes to schedule a ride.”
Trailblazer is hoping to make use of new software in the future.

Filings for candidacy open for state, county

McLeod County Commissioner Doug Krueger announced Monday that he is filing for candidacy for a second term as the District 2 commissioner. District 2 includes the cities of Glencoe and Plato, and Glencoe and Helen townships. Krueger also said that, if elected, this will be his final term.
Filings opened Tuesday for federal, state and county offices, and will remain open through Tuesday, June 5, at 5 p.m.

Silver Lake woman hurt in 2-vehicle crash

Jill Marie Prochaska, 40, of Silver Lake, was injured in a two-vehicle accident on Highway 7, east of Omega Avenue, Friday afternoon at about 3:47 p.m.

Darwin man killed in collision with planter

A Darwin man was killed when his vehicle collided with a farm implement on Highway 15 near 180th Street, between Hutchinson and Dassel, Saturday night at about 10:20 p.m.
According to the Minnesota State Patrol, Kevin Scott Erickson, 62, of Darwin, was northbound in a 2008 Ford Escape when it collided with the right rear side of a planter being pulled by a tractor, which had just pulled out from a field approach to travel north on Highway 15. The tractor was driven by Peter Elvin Peterson, 56, of Dassel. Peterson was not injured.

2 teens injured in rollover accident in Renville County

On Tuesday, May 15, at about 8:30 p.m., the Renville County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call reporting a one-vehicle rollover in Crooks Township. The crash occurred near the intersection of 240th Street and 850th Avenue. The initial report was that the vehicle had rolled into a field and both the driver and passenger were out of the vehicle.

Constance M. Jutz, 76, of Glencoe

Constance “Connie” Marlene (Templin) Jutz, 76, of Glencoe, died Sunday, May 13, at her home.
Mass of Christian Burial was held Saturday, May 19, at Church of St. Pius X in Glencoe with the Rev. Jerry Meidl officiating. Bev Wangerin was the organist and Lucy Newcomb was the song leader. Musical selections were “Precious Lord,” “Amazing Grace” and “How Great Thou Art.”
Casket bearers were Mark Ische, Ryan Fox, Jim Watercott, Harvey Moulzolf, Terry Templin and Denny Hennen. Interment was in St. Michael’s Catholic Cemetery in Buckman, Minnesota.

Paul Frederick Dröher, 67, of Orono

Paul Frederick Dröher, 67, of Orono, died Saturday, May 12, 2018, while he was in London, United Kingdom, on business for Federated Insurance Companies. When he became critically ill, his wife, son and daughter flew to London to be with him at St. Thomas Hospital in London, and were with him at his bedside when he died a short time after they arrived.

Ronald Frischman, 82, of Wisconsin

Ronald Robert Frishman, 82, of Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin, formerly of Glencoe, died Monday, May 7, 2018, in Wisconsin Rapids.
Celebration of life services will be held Saturday, June 2, at 2 p.m., at Trinity Lutheran Church, W5334 Dasssow Ave., Medford, Wisconsin, with the Rev. Randal Jeppesen officiating. A luncheon will follow the service at the church. Burial will be at a later date at Mound Cemetery in LeSueur.
Ronald Frishman was born in Whittlesey, Wisconsin, on Feb. 2, 1936. He was an officer supervior/controller for various Green Giant locations, including LeSueur and Glencoe.

Keith Gordon Pikal, 79, of Gaylord

Keith Pikal, 79, of Gaylord, formerly of Brownton, died Sunday, May 13, 2018, at Oak Terrace Health Care in Gaylord.
Funeral services were held Thursday, May 17, at Peace Lutheran Church in Hutchinson, with the Rev. John Pasche officiating. Dr. Joan DeVee Dixon was the organist. Congregational hymns were “It Is Well With My Soul,” “In the Garden,” “Amazing Grace” and “I’ll Fly Away.”
Interment was in the church cemetery.
