Panthers remain in contention for section title and state berth

Heading into the final week of the Section 5AA Tournament, the Glencoe-Silver Lake baseball team remained in contention for a return to state. However, after a gripping 2-1 loss to top-seeded Maple Lake on Monday, June 4, it will take a more than a little bit of work for the third-seeded Panthers.
GSL narrowly fell to the Irish in the winner’s bracket final after a tightly contested game won by Maple Lake by the slimmest of margins at Vollmer Field.


Three Panthers qualify for state track and field meet

Three members of the Glencoe-Silver Lake track and field teams are on their way to the state Class A meet this weekend in St. Paul following their qualifying appearances in the Section 2A meet on Saturday, June 2.
Kyle Christensen will be making his first state appearance, doing so in two events. Christensen earned the section championship in the 200-meter dash and took second place in the 100-meter dash; he will run both events at the state meet. The state meet is held at Klas Field at Hamline University.

No contests yet in county races

There has been only one new filing for McLeod County offices in the past week: Roger V. Schultz of Glencoe has filed for candidacy as a Soil and Water Supervisor for District 2. There has been no filings as of Friday noon for Soil and Water Supervisor for District 1.
One candidate each have filed for other county seats, and currently are running uncontested. Filings for candidacy close Tuesday, June 5, at 5 p.m.
