Cokato woman hurt in Hutchinson crash

A Cokato woman was injured Tuesday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash in Hutchinson at the intersection of Edmonton Avenue SE and Montreal Street SE.
According to the Minnesota State Patrol, Joyce Roseann Tabatt, 54, of Cokato, was northbound on Montreal Street in a 2006 Chevrolet Impala, and Kendra Rae Trudeau, 19, of Hutchinson, was westbound on Edmonton Avenue in a 2011 Chevrolet Malibu when the vehicles collided in the intersection.

Campaign will focus on reducing speed on Highway 7

MCLEOD COUNTY – After dealing with the ice, snow and slick roads of last winter, getting behind the wheel during the summer months seems a little more relaxing for Minnesota drivers. The problem is that what happens on Minnesota roads during the summer is not so welcoming. Roads are dry, driver speeds go up and so do fatalities.

County planning commission tables solar garden application

The McLeod County Planning Advisory Commission tabled a request for a conditional use permit for two one-megawatt solar gardens near Lester Prairie at its Wednesday, June 27, meeting.
Novel Energy Solar was seeking the permits to establish the gardens on property owned by Cecil Martin along County Road 9, south of Highway 7.

GSL School Board holds special meeting

The Glencoe-Silver Lake School Board were up bright and early to hold a special meeting on Thursday, June 28 to approve five agenda items: approve third-trimester teacher overloads, two teacher resignations, a principal resignation and a .25 extra duty teacher resignation. The board then closed the meeting to discuss negotiation strategies and re-opened the meeting to update the board on the process of hiring a principal and budget reduction recommendations.

Long-time Brownton pastor moving on to a new church

The Rev. Andrew Hermodson-Olsen has been the pastor of Grace Lutheran Church since January 1999, a little over 19 years.
Some community members were somewhat shocked to learn that the long-time pastor had accepted a new call to serve First Lutheran in St. James. To Hermodson-Olsen, moving is just a natural step of life.
Hermodson-Olsen’s father also was a pastor and, growing up, the family was used to pulling up roots every few years.

Proposal for private commercial campground tabled by commission

A proposal to develop a small campground at the Area 22 Paint Ball site, located along Highway 22 between Glencoe and Hutchinson, caused some head scratching among members of the McLeod County Planning Advisory Commission at its Wednesday, June 27, meeting.
Anthony and Amy Wagner, who operate the facility, would like to place eight to 10 vintage campers on sites near the Crow River to rent out.
However, that use is currently not allowed by county ordinance, and DNR shoreland rules indicate that the placement of the campers needs to be at least 300 feet from the shoreline.

City Finance Committee holds last meeting

In what was potentially Glencoe’s last Finance and Strategic Planning Committee meeting (starting in July, committee meetings will be called workshops), CliftonLarsonAllen (CLA), the third party auditor for the city, presented council members and city leaders with an executive audit summary. CLA issued what’s known as a “clean audit report” — a sign that the city is ethically spending public dollars in an appropriate, legal manner.
