Council tables Hennepin Ave. building demolition, again

For the second meeting in a row, Glencoe City Council tabled any action on demolishing the former General Store building, 1128 Hennepin Avenue, because of the complications with the property. The old store is in close proximity to Kevin Post’s building to the north and the Home Solutions building to the south.
City Attorney Mark Ostlund recommended tabling action again because of liability issues over demolishing the building. After researching the situation, Ostlund stated there is no shared wall agreement on this property.

McLeod Co-op to move to east industrial park

Glencoe City Council authorized drafting a development agreement with McLeod Cooperative Power Association to sell land in the east industrial park in order for the co-operative to build a new corporate campus east of Midwest Porcine.
“This would be a nice addition to our industrial park,” said Councilmember Allen Robeck at Monday night’s City Council meeting. “I would hate to lose the REA (Rural Electric Association).”

City questions cost of WWTP project

After last week’s workshop session concerning the city’s proposed $23 million wastewater treatment plant expansion and renovations, John Rodeberg, city engineering consultant from Short Elliott Hendrickson (SEH), presented a memo addressing concerns raised by City Council members.
At Monday night’s City Council meeting, Rodeberg elaborated on the costs and funding of the local project after concerns were raised that other communities were building new treatment plants for less cost than Glencoe’s renovations and expansion.

Council approves 14th Street extension

On a 4-0 vote, Monday night, Glencoe City Council authorized plans and specifications to extend 14th Street east of Grand Meadows. The street extension, which includes storm sewer, curb and gutter and bituminous surface, is part of the planned Panther Heights apartment project expected to get underway later this year.
Council asked that the bids include options for both a 41-foot-wide street and a 34-foot street.
