BBB warns of phony IRS calls

Over the last couple of weeks, Better Business Bureau® of Minnesota and North Dakota (BBB) has noted an increase in phone calls to the public falsely claiming an affiliation with the IRS. Calls of this nature, where consumers are told a debt is owed and must be paid immediately, are not legitimate. Callers play on fear to pressure consumers and business owners into making on the spot payments which are not due. The IRS communicates primarily through the U.S. Mail, and taxpayers always have the right to dispute claimed debts.

SL Council approves new squad purchase

The Silver Lake City Council held a special meeting Monday, July 30. The purpose of the meeting was to approve the purchase of a new police squad car.
The department’s 2017 Ford Explorer was totaled on July 19 after being involved in an accident while assisting the McLeod County Sheriff’s Department in a pursuit.
The council heard that part-time police officer Ross McMullen was recovering from the injuries he sustained in the crash and is expected to be on duty this weekend.
