David Klepel death notice

David Klepel,78, of Brownton, Minn., passed away Monday,
Aug. 20, 2018, at his home in Battle Lake, Minn.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, Aug. 25, 11 a.m., at
Immanuel Lutheran Church in Brownton with interment following in the
church cemetery.
Visitation will be held Friday, Aug. 24, 5 to 8 p.m., and will continue one hour prior to the service all at the church.
Military honors by the Brownton American Legion Post 143.

Messner repeats as Glencoe CC champ

Thomas Messner repeated as men’s champion, with Sheila Erpenbach claiming the women’s title after a weekend of competition in the Glencoe Country Club (GCC) Championship meet, Aug. 18-19.
Messner took first again in the championship flight, followed by Rick Selvey in second and Tom Mrvicka in third.
Erpenbach won the women’s championship flight, with Marce Selvey taking second.
Gerry Stuewe won the president’s flight, with Dean Exsted in second and Richard Dammann in third.

GKC members enjoy Hutchinson tourney

Several members of the Glencoe Karate Club (GKC) participated in the Hutchinson Fun Outdoor Camp and Tournament Aug. 17-18.
Attending members camped out at Masonic West River Park Friday night before beginning their Saturday morning with a 7:00 a.m. run, followed by training.
After breakfast, competing members took part in a life-size checkers game where players had to spar to acquire their square.
After checkers, the tournament began, with seven GKC members competing.

Panther netters open fall season in hasty manner

While most Glencoe-Silver Lake sports teams still have at least another week before opening their respective 2018 seasons, the Panthers girls’ tennis team is already four competitions into its fall campaign.
GSL opened its autumn schedule on Friday, Aug. 17, at Jordan. It was a rough entry into the season as the host Jaguars served up a 7-0 defeat to the Panthers.
