Bruins remain alive for state tournament spot

Four outs away from clinching a trip to state, the Brownton Bruins still have some work to do to fulfill dreams of making an appearance in the Class C tournament.
Brownton was delivered a hard dose of heartache in the second round of the Region 7C Tournament on Sunday, Aug. 3, at Lions Park in Waconia.
The seventh-seeded Bruins, fresh off a 6-0 triumph over No. 2 seed Watertown one day earlier, were clinging to a 1-0 eighth-inning lead on third-seeded Young America, when it all fell apart.

Blue Jays seize state berth once again

With a pair of victories during the opening rounds of play in the Region 7C Tournament last week, the Plato Blue Jays have once again punched their ticket for the upcoming Class C state tournament.
In front of record crowds at Lions Park in Waconia, top-seeded Plato rolled to an 8-1 win over No. 8 Cologne in the regional opener on Thursday, Aug. 2, before rallying twice to overcome fifth-seeded Green Isle 5-4 in a state-qualifying matchup on Saturday, Aug. 4.

Larson receives CGMC award

Glencoe City Administrator Mark Larson was recognized by the Coalition of Greater Minnesota Cities (CGMC) July 26 during the Coalition’s three-day summer conference in Mankato for his excellence in service to Greater Minnesota.
The Excellence in Service Award is given annually to a city leader who demonstrates knowledge, leadership and active participation in CGMC program areas over the past year.

Audrey Stenzel, 89, of Winthrop

Audrey Stenzel, 89, of Winthrop, died Saturday, July 28, 2018, at Southview Living Center in Gibbon. Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, Aug. 8 (today), 10:30 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church, Bismarck Township, Sibley County with Reverend Erik Karlson officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The organist will be Lori Radtke. Special music will be "River Flows In You-Yiruma" performed by her great-granddaughter, Alex Maiers; and "Others” will be performed by family.
