GSL ready to take school levy plan on the road

Recognizing it will likely need to explain the details of its request voters eliminate one existing property tax levy and replace it with a different amount, Glencoe-Silver Lake School District officials are planning a series of information meetings leading up to its Nov. 6 referendum.

City's levy plan reflects increasing value of property

Taking advantage of growth in the city's tax base, the Glencoe City Council approved a preliminary levy for 2019 reflecting an increase in the city's tax base with no new money for operations Monday evening, Sept. 17.
The city council approved a 6.8 percent increase in Glencoe's preliminary levy for 2019. Glencoe will levy $2.545 million in 2019.

Wayne Wise, 36, of Glencoe, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 18, at his home in Glencoe.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Sept. 22, 1 p.m., at Johnson-McBride Funeral Chapel in Glencoe with interment at the Glencoe City Cemetery in Glencoe.
Visitation will be held Saturday, Sept. 22, 12-1 p.m., one hour prior to the service at the chapel.

Cross-Country squads both third at NYA meet

Returning to the site of their season-opening victories, the Glencoe-Silver Lake cross-country teams both finished third in the Norwood Young America Lions Invitational at Baylor Park in Young America on Tuesday, Sept. 11.
On a pristine afternoon, the Panther girls took third out of 14 teams, while the boys placed third out of 18 squads.
Malayh Metcalf led the girls to their lofty position by finishing fifth overall in the girls’ race, completing the five-kilometer course in 20 minutes, 30.3 seconds.
