Panthers seeking first goal

The Glencoe-Silver Lake girls’ soccer team is still in search of both its first goal and first win of the season after falling 7-0 to Wright County Conference-leading Orono on Thursday, Sept. 6.
It was the third shutout loss in as many games for the Panthers, who dropped consecutive 1-0 losses to Mayer Lutheran and Mankato Loyola at the end of August.

Panthers 2-0 after steamrolling Royals

In dominating fashion, the Glencoe-Silver Lake football team improved to 2-0 on the season with a 54-7 victory over visiting Watertown-Mayer on Friday, Sept. 7.
GSL held a 14-0 lead before the Panther offense took its first snap due to a pair of defensive touchdowns by Will Higgins and Zach Mohr.
Higgins brought the Royals’ optimistic opening drive to a soul-crushing conclusion after corralling a blocked field goal attempt and scampering 70 yards the opposite direction for GSL’s first score of the night.

Spikers top Sibley

The Glencoe-Silver Lake volleyball team claimed its first win of the season with a three-game sweep at Sibley East on Tuesday, Sept. 4.
GSL swept the Wolverines 25-19, 25-15, 25-18 to improve to 1-2 on the season. Individual statistics were not made available.

Cross-Country squads run at Smith Invitational

The Glencoe-Silver Lake boys’ and girls’ cross-country teams began their post-Labor Day schedule with an annual appearance in the Gerry Smith Invitational at Montgomery National Golf Club on Thursday, Sept. 6.
GSL finished 10th in the 22-team girls’ race, while the boys took 17th in their 28-team contest.
Malayh Metcalf led the Panther girls by placing 28th individually out of 175 finishers in a time of 20 minutes, 47.9 seconds.
Maddie Lemke was 42nd overall in 21:20.1, with Kendall Guerrero taking 47th in 21:27.8.
