Jordan halts GSL boys’ season

An 11-17 season came to a close for the Glencoe-Silver Lake boys’ basketball team last week as the Panthers fell 78-47 to Section 2AA North top seed Jordan on Thursday, March 8.
However, GSL did make a little noise before bowing out of the postseason.
The Panthers won their 11th and final game, advancing to the subsection semifinal, by defeating Norwood Young America 64-47 in the playoff opener two nights earlier.
GSL won its final home game of the season, and avenged a 64-49 road loss to the Raiders on Jan. 20, by dominating their visitors nearly from start to finish.

Raiders end Panther girls’ run in subsection final

After 20 wins, a successful winter campaign once again ended short of the promised land for the Glencoe-Silver Lake girls’ basketball team.
The Panthers saw their dreams of a run to the state tournament ended in the Section 2AA North final in a 56-39 loss to Norwood Young America at Minnesota State University, Mankato, on Tuesday, March 6.
NYA, which had topped GSL 55-44 in a contest earlier this season, had no intentions of allowing the Panthers any hope in the rematch.

City’s engineers attempt to clear up questions on wastewater project

The city of Glencoe’s Finance and Strategic Planning delved more deeply into its proposed $21 million wastewater treatment improvement proposals Wednesday afternoon, Feb. 28.
John Rodeberg, an engineer with Short Elliott Hendrickson (SEH), Inc., tried to answer some of the issues that he felt surrounded the City Council’s lack of a decision to raise wastewater service rates at its Feb. 20 meeting. SEH had proposed a new rate schedule to make sure that it was raising enough revenue to pay for the non-grant portion of the project, as well as start building reserves for future maintenance.

Gruenhagen hopes to secure funding for city wastewater plant project

State Rep. Glenn Gruenhagen, R-Glencoe, is hoping the state Legislature will appropriate more money this session to addressing wastewater treatment needs.
Gruenhagen met with members of the Glencoe City Council and other city officials Friday at noon to discuss potential funding sources for the city’s proposed $21 million in improvements to its wastewater treatment plant.
