Lindsay Boesche joins GRHS staff

Certified physician assistant Lindsay Boesche recently joined the internal medicine department at Glencoe Regional Health Services (GRHS). She provides care to adults, 18 and older, who see either Dr. Bryan Fritsch or Dr. Bryan Petersen as their primary care provider. Boesche works Monday through Friday at the Glencoe Clinic.


Habitat for Humanity dedicates 25th house

Last Saturday, Crow River Habitat dedicated the 25th Habitat home in McLeod County. This milestone home is located at 429 Grant Ave. SE in Hutchinson. Future homeowner April Olson spoke during a short program, along with local Habitat for Humanity representatives and Diane Knorr, a Thrivent Financial representative.


Gordon T. Pawlicki, 75, of Silver Lake

Gordon Thomas Pawlicki, 75, of Silver Lake, died Saturday, Feb. 10, 2018, at the Hutchinson hospital.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, Feb. 16, at 10:30 a.m., at Holy Family Catholic Church in Silver Lake. The Rev. Michael Doyle will be the celebrant.
Visitation will be Thursday, Feb. 15, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., with parish prayers at 6:30 p.m., at the Maresh Funeral Home in Silver Lake. Visitation will continue Friday for one hour prior to the Mass at the church.


Alice Irene Bandemer, 88, of Glencoe

Alice Irene (Sturges) Bandemer, 88, of Glencoe, died Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2018, at Glencoe Regional Health Services.
Funeral services were held Friday, Feb. 9, at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glencoe with the Rev. Peter Adelsen officiating. Dawn Wolter was the organist. Congregational hymns were “Amazing Grace,” “Rock of Ages” and “How Great Thou Art.”
Casket bearers were Brad Havemeier, Gary Havemeier, Rick Deal, Keith Deal, Gayle Deal, Kevin Bandemer, Brian Bandemer, Darrell Hilbert and Donald Sturges Jr.
Interment was in the church cemetery.


Jolanda V. Popelka, 71, of Mayer

Jolanda V. Popelka, 71, of Mayer, died Monday, Feb. 5, 2018, at the Victoria Care Center.
Mass of Christian Burial was held Friday, Feb. 9, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Community in Waconia with the Rev. Bennet Tran as the celebrant.
Serving as urn bearers were Mrs. Popelka’s children. Interment was in the St. Pius X Catholic Cemetery in Glencoe.
Jolanda Popelka was born May 7, 1946, in Drayton, North Dakota, the daughter of Vernon and Alma (Martinson) Dahl. On April 30, 1966, she was united in marriage to Jerome Popelka at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Minnetonka.


Emily Theresa Wilkins, 91, of Glencoe

Emily Theresa Wilkins, 91, of Glencoe, died Monday, Feb. 5, 2018, at Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park.
Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, Feb. 12, at Church of St. Pius X in Glencoe with the Rev. Anthony Stubeda officiating. Sue Mielke was the organist and Gus and Irene Makovsky were the song leaders. Musical selections were “We Walk By Faith,” Hail Mary, Gentle Woman,” “Panis Angelicus,” “Song of Farewell” and “I Know That My Redeemer Lives.”


Alfonso Cano Jr., 61, of Litchfield

Alfonso Cano Jr., 61, of Litchfield, formerly of Glencoe, died Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2018, at Meeker Manor in Litchfield.
Mass of Christian Burial was held Tuesday, Feb. 13, at Church of St. Pius X in Glencoe with the Rev. Anthony Stubeda officiating. Urn bearers were Michael Cano and Baltazar Cano. Interment was in the Glencoe City Cemetery.
Alfonso Cano Jr. was born March 4, 1956, in Eagle Pass, Texas, the son of Alfonso Lopez Cano and Romelia (Castillo) Cano. He was baptized as an infant and confirmed in his faith as a youth. He attended school in Eagle Pass, Texas.


Maynard Dammann, 94, Lester Prairie

Maynard Ellsworth Dammann, 94, of Lester Prairie, died Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2018, at Glencoe Regional Health Services Long Term Care.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 10, at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie with the Rev. Eric Nelson officiating. Jane Holasek was the organist. Congregational hymns were “How Great Thou Art,” “On Eagle’s Wings” and “I Know That My Redeemer Lives.”


Magnuson places 3rd in regional spelling bee

Reese Magnuson, a sixth grader at Glencoe-Silver Lake Schools, placed third at the Southwest West Central Service Cooperative regional spelling bee on Feb. 6 to earn the right to compete at the state spelling bee in Fergus Falls Feb. 20.
Thirty-one students from 26 districts, who won at their local level were invited to compete at the regional bee. Scores from a written round and three oral rounds determined the top 15 students who competed in the afternoon spell-down. It took 15 rounds to narrow the field to the top four students.


Monahan named to Drake list

Madison Monahan, Silver Lake, was named to the fall semester 2017 president’s list at Drake University, Des Moines, Iowa. This academic honor is achieved by earning a perfect 4.0 grade point average.
