There was plenty of wrestling in the air last week as the Glencoe-Silver Lake/Lester Prairie wrestling team hosted a dual meet and a tournament on its home floor.
The week kicked off with a dual against BOLD on Tuesday, Dec. 11. After a tight competition from start to finish, the Cardinals pulled out a 40-36 win over the host Panthers.
GSL/LP fought back from an early 12-0 deficit as a win by fall from Jace Cacka at 120 pounds and a 16-3 major decision from Sawyer Varpness at 132 sandwiched Carter Ruschmeier’s win by forfeit at 126 to put the hosts up 16-12.

Gymnasts open season against HLWW

Boys' cagers split a pair on the road

Road warriors that the team is as of late, the Glencoe-Silver Lake basketball squad split a pair of matchups away from home last week. The Panthers claimed a win at Sibley East on Thursday, Dec. 13, before falling at Hutchinson the next night.
Three GSL players mustered up double-digit scoring as the Panthers topped host Sibley East 60-48 in Arlington.
Dane Schwirtz led the way with 15 points, while forwards Gabe Roepke and Austin Barrett scored 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Girls' hoop thumps, then gets thumped

The Glencoe-Silver Lake girls’ basketball team found itself on opposite sides of lopsided results last week.
After doubling up Delano at home on Tuesday, Dec. 11, for their third consecutive victory, the Panthers winning streak was abruptly halted as they were more than doubled-up in a blowout loss at Hutchinson three nights later.
GSL guard Miah Monahan scored more points than the entire Delano team as the Panthers tamed the Tigers 48-24 at home. The contest was never close, as the hosts ran out to a 32-12 halftime lead before cruising to the 24-point win.
