Carol Winterfeldt, 90, of Prior Lake

Carol E. Winterfeldt, 90, of Prior Lake, formerly a longtime resident of Brownton, passed away Saturday, March 2, at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.
Funeral services will be held Friday, March 8, 1 p.m., at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Brownton with interment in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Friday, March 8, 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the church.

Marion Eggersgluess, 86, of Glencoe

Marion Alice (Litzau) Eggersgluess, 86, of Glencoe, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 26, at GlenFields Living with Care in Glencoe.
A funeral service was held Friday, March 1, 11 a.m., at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glencoe, with interment in the First Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery. A visitation began an hour prior to the service at the church.
Pastor Peter Adelsen was the officiating clergy.
Paul Otte was the organist. “Jesus Loves Me,” “Just As I Am,” “Rock Of Ages,” and “Abide With Me” were the congregational hymns.

Jo Ann Belcher, 69, of Waconia

Jo Ann F. Belcher, 69, of Waconia and formerly of Glencoe, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 26, at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis.
A memorial service will be held Saturday March 16, 11 a.m., at Faith Lutheran Church, 800 Waconia Pkwy., in Waconia with Rev. Dale Peterson officiating. A gathering of family and friends will be one hour prior to the service at church and a reception will be held following the service.

Aaron Scharpe, 37, of Green Isle

Aaron J. Scharpe, 37, of Green Isle died Monday, Feb. 25, at his home in rural Green Isle.
A memorial service was at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 2, at Zion Lutheran Church in Arlington with Rev. James Carlson officiating.
There was no prior visitation to the service. Instead, following the service at the church, there was an open house celebration of life held at the Arlington Community Center from 4 to 7 p.m. His urn was interred in the Arlington Public Cemetery.

Berniece Whitaker, 91, of Norwood Young America

Berniece Ann (Trigg) Whitaker, 91, of Norwood Young America, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 26, at the Good Samaritan Society in Arlington.
A memorial service was held Saturday, March 2, 11 a.m., at the Paul-McBride Funeral Chapel in Norwood Young America, with interment at a later date.
Pastor Eli Somers was the officiating clergy.
Jan Meyers was the organist.
“How Great Thou Art” and “On Eagle’s Wings” were the congregational hymns.
Berniece Ann (Trigg) Whitaker was born Feb. 4, 1928, in Colman, S.D. She was the daughter of Lenzy and Anna (Bruns) Trigg.

Virginia Weis, 91, of Phoenix

Virginia “Ginny” Weis, 91, of Phoenix, formerly of Glencoe, passed away Sunday, Feb. 3, at her home at Mountain Park Senior Living in Phoenix.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, March 9, 11 a.m., at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Stewart, with The Rev. Paul Wolf and Deacon Don Maiers officiating.
Music will be provided by Mark and Cindy Maiers. Readers are Joe Winkel and Sr. Gracemarie Maiers, OSB, with petitions by Sr. Gen Maiers, OSB.

Belle Plaine bounces Panthers out of girls’ basketball playoffs

The season came to an abrupt and surprising end for the Glencoe-Silver Lake girls’ basketball team, as the Panthers were upset at home by Belle Plaine, 64-59, in the opening game of the Section 2AA Tournament on Tuesday, Feb. 26.
GSL, seeded fourth in the 2AA North subsection, entered the game on a two-game losing streak to end the regular season against the fifth-seeded Tigers.

Ruschmeier competes at state wrestling meet

As a winter storm blew in outdoors, Glencoe-Silver Lake freshman Carter Ruschmeier prepared to take to the mat in the opening round of the Class AA State Wrestling Tournament on Friday, March 1, at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.
As March roared in like a lion, so did Ruschmeier’s initial appearance at state. The Panther frosh’s task was particularly daunting, as he drew undefeated Section 5AA champion Jake Svihel of Totino-Grace.

Boys’ cagers roll T’Birds in Section 2AA North opener

The Glencoe-Silver Lake boys’ basketball team is heating up at the right time of the season.
After closing out the regular season with a pair of victories, the Panthers doused Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop 68-42 in the Section 2AA North subsection playoff opener on Monday, March 4.
An experienced GSL side, seeded second in the North, had little trouble with the youthful seventh-seeded Thunderbirds.
Playing in its final home game of the 2018-19 campaign, the Panthers never trailed as senior forward Austin Barrett scored the first four points of the game to give GSL a lead it never relinquished.
