Nolan Schulz, 82, of Stewart

Nolan Schulz, 82, of Stewart, passed away Saturday, Sept. 19, at Fair Oaks Lodge Nursing Home in Wadena.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, Sept. 26, 10:30 a.m., at Zion United Methodist Church in Buffalo Lake, with interment following in the Zion Evangelical Cemetery in Preston Lake Township, Renville County.
A visitation will be held Friday, Sept. 25, 4 to 7 p.m., and will continue one hour prior to the service all at the church.
Masks are required and social distancing guidelines will be followed.

Delphine Lano, 92, of Norwood Young America

Delphine “Del” Lano, 92, of Norwood Young America, passed away Sunday, Sept. 20, at her home in Norwood Young America.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held Saturday, Sept. 26, 11 a.m., at Church of the Ascension in Norwood Young America, with interment following in the church cemetery.
A visitation will be held Friday, Sept. 25, 5 to 8 p.m., at Church of the Ascension in Norwood Young America, and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
Social distancing and masks are required. Limited space is available.

Howard Schuette, 94, of Plato

Howard W. Schuette, 94, of Plato, passed away Friday, Sept. 18, at Glencoe Regional Health in Glencoe.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Oct. 3, 11 a.m., at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Plato, with interment following at the church cemetery.
A gathering of family and friends will be held Saturday, Oct. 3, 10 to 11 a.m., one hour prior the service at the church.

Mayor Wilson called the regular meeting of the city council to order at 7:00 p.m. Members present: Lemke, Neid Alexander, Schrupp and Robeck. Also present: City Administrator Larson, Ass’t City Administrator Neumann, Finance Director Trippel, PWDs Voigt and Schreifels, Chief Raiter, Captain Padilla and Fire Chief Scheidt.
Motion to approve the consent agenda as presented entered by Councilor Neid and seconded by Councilor Alexander. Motion carried in a 5 to 0 vote.

September 16th

Boys’ soccer team rallies, ready for tough tests

Hutchinson/Glencoe-Silver Lake’s Parker Wortz (6) advanced the ball against the Central Minnesota Christian defense during the second half of the team’s 1-1 draw with the Bluejays Thursday, Sept. 10, in Glencoe. Wortz and his Hutch/GSL teammates rallied from a 1-0 deficit to earn a draw thanks to a goal with about 12 minutes left in the game.

10th Street improvement plans

John Rodeberg, an engineer with Short-Elliott-Hendrickson (SEH) presented plans for improvements to 10th Street in Glencoe during two open houses Monday, Sept. 14. The project area from North Hennepin Avenue to Morningside Drive, includes new pavement to improve the driving surface and extend the life of the roadway. There will also be sidewalk and pedestrian ramp improvements to comply with ADA standards. The project will cost about $1.5 million. Construction is expected to begin next summer.

A new roundabout

A road construction project on County Road 15 (Morningside Drive) between 11th Street and 16th Street in Glencoe began this summer. Duininck, Inc. of Prinsburg is in charge of the project. Bud Peterson was in charge of helping construct the roundabout on 16th Street Monday, Sept. 14, which will be completed next year. The project also includes a new bituminous surface road and railroad crossing updates.

Activity returns to Brownton Cooperative building

Jared Ellig (left), Tracy Ellig (middle) and Shawn Streich are getting Brownton’s empty grain elevator back up and running. Streich has rented grain elevator space for the last 20 years, so he’s excited to have more control with his own. He officially bought it July 9 and will be running it with his partner Tracy Ellig and her son Jared Ellig. They’ll be storing and drying corn and soybeans from their farm. The facility sat vacant for nearly four years.

Celebrating a goal

With help from teammates Lydia Simons (15) and Miranda Litzau (9), Hutch/GSL’s Isabel Villarreal (7) celebrates scoring a goal against Mayer Lutheran Tuesday, Sept. 8 in Glencoe. Villarreal and Litzau scored the match’s only goals in GSL’s second win of the season over the Crusaders. Hutch/GSL will host Holy Family tomorrow night, Thursday, Sept. 17, 5 p.m., in Hutchinson.
