The commission, down to four members with the resignation of John Schrupp earlier this month, unanimously OK’d spending just over $70,000 in a five-year extended warranty for generator No. 14.

Weather memories are a great bridge to recalling history we lived through

The past several months, I have been doing research for an updated book on the history of Glencoe. It is labor-intensive and time-consuming, but quite interesting.
After several months pouring over the first 28 years worth of old Glencoe Enterprises and McLeod County Chronicles, I came to one major conclusion — weather is a common denominator in Glencoe’s history over the past 50 years.

The problems with the death penalty in the Cruz case

By Laura Finley
There is no doubt about Nikolas Cruz’s culpability for the mass murder of 17 people and the injury of 17 others at Marjorie Stoneman Douglas High School Feb. 14, 2018. His horrific actions affected many more than those who were injured or killed and will leave a lifetime scar on far too many people. He absolutely must be held accountable for this tragedy.
The death penalty, however, is the wrong way to do so, for several reasons.

They sat quietly, patiently and watched Mayor Ryan Voss adjust the schedule every which way. If there were people attending the July 18 city council meeting for a specific reason, the council was open to agenda flexibility.
But not for Sandy Olson and Eddie Gould.

State champions – Brownton Cubs 16U earn top honors at state tournament

With plenty of offense and solid pitching and defense throughout, the Brownton Cubs 16U won the Tier 4 state tournament last weekend in Mankato.
The 16U Cubs, primarily varsity-age players for Glencoe-Silver Lake won four games Saturday and Sunday, July 23-24, by a cumulative score of 38-6. They led for nearly all of their games and only faced a comeback effort once.
The team entered the tournament after a second-place finish in a state qualifier tournament. The state tournament provided a measure of revenge over Hutchinson Black, a team that topped the Cubs the previous weekend.
