GSL girls thump Titans heading into holiday break

Alyssa Radke (15) and the GSL girls' basketball team won their final game of 2021 with a resounding win over Tri-City United Dec. 21 in Glencoe.

Pamela Munsch, 62, of New Auburn

Pamela “Pam” Jane Munsch, 62, of New Auburn, passed away Monday, Dec. 27, at Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park.

Jennifer Lindahl, 39, of Glencoe

Jennifer Kaye (Ortt) Lindahl, 39, of Glencoe, passed away Sunday, Dec. 26, at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, Jan. 8, 2022, 3 p.m., at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glencoe.
Visitation will be held Saturday, Jan. 8, 2022, 1 to 3 p.m., two hours prior to the service at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glencoe, Minnesota.

The end of an era – After 140-plus years, Gould Jewelry closing its doors

Bill Gould (left) learned much of what he knows about the jewelery business and working with people from his father, William Nathan Gould. One of Glencoe’s oldest businesses, Gould Diamond & Jewelers on North Hennepin Avenue, will close next month after 144 years.

An unscheduled stop

A semi truck in the ditch along Highway 25, northeast of Green Isle, near the highway's intersection with 158th Street and the Carver-McLeod County border closed the highway Monday morning, Dec. 27 around 9 a.m. The highway was especially slippery in the area of the corner and the semi driver lost control as he tried to navigate the curve in the highway. A large tow truck helped free the tow truck from the ditch before the road was finally opened around 10 a.m.

Demolition work

A demolition crew from Circle F Farms of Gaylord recently completed razing the former McLeod West Elementary School. Citing the deteriorating condition of the building and potential safety hazard, the city ordered the building be razed at a base bid cost of $109,500.

Board OKs trimming reminders before shutting off service

Electricity customers in Glencoe tardy in paying their bill will see a change in the notice they receive before facing a possible interruption of service from Glencoe Light and Power.
Monday, Dec. 27, the board approved by consensus a request to eliminate one of the two notices customers who did not pay their bill receive before electrical service is shut off for non-payment. This month, the utility has about 78 past-due customers of its approximately 2,750 accounts owing $100 or more, said Dave Meyer, Glencoe Light and Power’s general manager.

County sets salaries for elected officers, OKs snow plow purchase

The McLeod County Board of Commissioners approved a 3 percent salary increase for the county’s elected officials, including themselves, at the Dec. 21 board meeting.
The 2021 commissioner salary was $31,761. County Administrator Shelia Murphy recommended an increase of all elected officials at 3 to 4.5 percent, noting elected officials only received a 1.5 percent increase in 2021.
