Brownton’s Tom Lemke, a member of the Minnesota Baseball Association’s board of directors, is hoping Gov. Walz will relax the restrictions associated with the COVID-19 pandemic to the point where town teams like the Brown Bruins, Glencoe Brewers and Plato Blue Jays can play ball yet this summer. Lemke is a former player with the Bruins and spent almost 37 summers at Brownton’s Barney Tadsen Field.

Keeping spirits up through music

Chuck Thiel made another appearance brightening the spirits of residents of Millie Beneke Manor Thursday afternoon, May 14. Thiel, playing from an appropriate distance, entertained residents on all four sides of the building. Thiel is a well known band leader and concertina player of the Jolly Ramblers from Lester Prairie. He is very popular in this area and a favorite with a broad range of residents. His performances are intended to uplife the spirits of people staying close to home during the pandemic.

A state trip denied

Four members of a GSL Knowledge Bowl team won the regional meet and earned a state meet berth back in March. During the next week, the team started to get ready for state, but soon school was put on hold and then the state meet was canceled. Like teams of all sorts all around Minnesota, these students lost the chance to participate in their state meet. Team members recently received their commemorative state team T-shirts. The team includes (from left) coach Eric Anderson, Paul Sievert, Eli Kuehn, Kobe Boozikee, Nathan Warner, and coach Jeff Iverson.
