Fall concert

Gruenhagen easily wins re-election

State Rep. Glenn Gruenhagen, R-Glencoe, easily won re-election to his Minnesota District 18B House seat Tuesday. He defeated DFL challenger John Lipke with 8,801 votes to Lipke's 4,939, according to unofficial results on the Minnesota Secretary of State's website.

Robeck wins city seat; Krueger defeats Terlinden

The city of Glencoe had three council seats on the ballot in Tuesday’s election. There will be one new council member as of Jan. 1 as former city employee Allen Robeck defeated incumbent Lori Adamietz in the at-large councilor race, 902 votes to 609. Precinct 3 incumbent Gary Ziemer was returned to another term with 284 votes to challenger Marie Thurn’s 164. John Schrupp, running unopposed in Precinct 2, was re-elected with 344 votes.

Incumbents returned to Glencoe-Silver Lake School Board

Glencoe-Silver Lake's three incumbent school board members were returned to their seats in Tuesday's election.

Re-elected were Jason Lindeman with 2,309 votes, Clark J. Christianson with 2,208, and Anne Twiss with 1,909. Also running were Pat Fogarty, who earned 1,895 votes, and former school board member Gary Schreifels, who had 1,298 votes.

County to have 2 new commissioners

McLeod County will have two new commissioners Jan. 1.

District 2 Commissioner Kermit Terlinden lost his seat to challenger Doug Krueger in Tuesday's election, and District 5 incumbent Jon Christensen was defeated by challenger Joe Nagel. Krueger had 1,290 votes to Terlinden's 997, while Nagel had 1,209 votes to Christensen's 1,175.

Edmund F. Zeik, 95, of Silver Lake, died Sunday, Oct. 26, 2014, at his home.
Private family services will take place with burial at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Silver Lake.

Patricia Ann Meyer, 68, of Gaylord

Patricia Ann Meyer, 68, of Gaylord, died Saturday, Oct. 26, 2014, at Ridgeview Sibley Medical Center in Arlington.
The funeral service will be Thursday, Oct. 30, at 11 a.m., at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gaylord with interment in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be Wednesday, Oct. 29, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., at the Egesdal Funeral Home in Gaylord, with a prayer service at 8 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church Thursday.

John Charles Popelka, 66, of Glencoe

John Charles Popelka, 66, of Glencoe, died Monday, Oct. 20, 2014, at United Hospital in St. Paul.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Thursday, Oct. 23, at the Church of St. Pius X in Glencoe with the Rev. Anthony Stubeda officiating.
Kelly LeCrone was the song leader and Sue Mielke was the organist. Musical selections included “We Are the Light of the World,” “Lord, When You Come to the Seashore,” “Gift of Finest Wheat,” “Panis Angelicus” and “Hail, Holy Queen Enthroned Above.”

Henry ‘Hiney’ Zajicek, 78, of Glencoe

Henry “Hiney” John Zajicek Jr., 78, of Glencoe, died Thursday, Oct. 23, 2014, at Meeker Memorial Hospital in Litchfield.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Tuesday, Oct. 28, at the Church of St. Pius X in Glencoe with the Rev. Anthony Stubeda officiating.
Sue Mielke was the organist and Mary Ann Thalmann was the song leader. Musical selections were “Here I Am, Lord,” “Jesus, Come to Us,” “I Am the Bread of Life” and “Prayer of St. Francis.”

Mildred Esther Vasek, 91, Silver Lake

Mildred Esther Vasek, 91, of Silver Lake, died Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2014, at the Hutchinson Health Hospital.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Oct. 25, at Grace Bible Church in Silver Lake.
Honorary pallbearers were Sherilyn Cline, Londa Kokayko, Kimberly Upshaw, Jennifer Schuette, Jill Vasek and Alissa Carlson. Pallbearers were Jake Vasek, Dean Dostal, Beau Vasek, Jeremy Vasek, Andrew Vasek and Michael Vasek.
Interment was in the Grace Bible Cemetery, Silver Lake.
