Spring load restrictions go into effect March 11

Spring load restrictions will go into effect on all McLeod County highways Wednesday, March 11, and will remain in effect until further notice.
All roads will be posted with signs indicating maximum allowable axle loads. Maps showing specific restrictions are available at the McLeod County Highway Department office or on the McLeod County website at www.co.mcleod.mn.us/highway/slr.
Any questions regarding specific route postings should be directed to the McLeod County Highway Department at 320-484-4321.

March 6th

GSL School Board changes meeting time

The Glencoe-Silver Lake School Board has changed its meeting start time Monday to accommodate the GSL Panthers' girls basketball subsectional title tilt in Mankato. The School Board will meet at 5:30 p.m., rather than its usual 7 p.m. start time.

Along with the usual reports , the School Board will again discuss different/digital day options and have a second of its policies. The meeting will be held in the Lincoln Junior High meeting room (Room 124).

The girls' game against Norwood Young America starts at 8 p.m. at Minnesota State University, Mankato.

March 4th

Panthers wrestling trio among state’s finest

The Glencoe-Silver Lake/Lester Prairie wrestling team’s season came to an official end over the weekend at the Class AA state tournament in St. Paul.
With it also came the conclusion of two Panther careers, but not before one of those seniors found himself upon the medal stand.
Nate Tesch earned a sixth-place finish at 152 pounds to close out his time with the team.

GSL wins spirited sectional opener

The Glencoe-Silver Lake boys’ basketball team opened the postseason in fine form by defeating Norwood Young America 59-48 in the Section 2AA North Subsection semifinals on Friday, Feb. 27 at New Prague High School.
It was the eighth consecutive victory for the Panthers, who improved to 21-5 on the season entering this week.

Panthers begin playoffs with a win

It wasn’t easy, but the Glencoe-Silver Lake girls’ basketball team ended a three-game losing streak and kept its season alive with a 64-51 defeat of visiting Belle Plaine in the opening round of the Section 2AA Tournament on  Monday, March 2.
“I give total credit to our girls,” coach Zach Otto-Fisher said. “Belle Plaine battled, but we didn’t buckle.”

Kevin Lee Grack, 54, of Glencoe

Kevin Lee Grack, 54, of Glencoe, died after a courageous battle with cancer on Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2015, at his home.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 28, at First Evangelical Lutheran Church with the Rev. Ronald Mathison officiating. Dawn Wolter was the organist. Soloist August Makovsky sang “In the Garden.” Congregational hymns were “On Eagle’s Wings” and “I Know That My Redeemer Lives.”
Honorary urn bearers were Andrew Fauzey, Kelsey Miller, Kayla Grack and Christopher Becker.

Ella Martha Neubarth, 95, of Gaylord

Ella Neubarth, 95, of Gaylord, died Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2015, at Glencoe Regional Health Services long-term care facility.
Funeral services were held Monday, March 2, at American Lutheran Church in Gaylord with the Rev. Paul Kratzke officiating. Marge Lindgren was the organist. Congregational hymns were “Children of the Heavenly Father,” “How Great Thou Art,” “Jesus, Still Lead On” and “Lord, Take My Hand and Lead Me.”
