SL residents irked with rate hike, lack of city transparency

Residents of Silver Lake experienced sticker shock when they received their most recent utility bill. In November, the city council approved a 51-percent base rate increase to the water and sewer utilities within the city. The storm water utility also increased.
Several residents attended the Feb. 18 council meeting to voice their frustration.
On top of the hefty increase, the residents were frustrated by the lack of transparency by the council, feeling the city failed to properly inform them of the increase.

(For the complete story, see the Feb. 26 print edition of The Chronicle.)

Bigger fish to fry – Our view: Proposed ordinance a solution without a problem

Advisory boards and commissions to the city council are, by their nature, intended to offer the city council a recommendation on an issue. They were not created to make hard and lasting decisions. They are made up of citizens who ideally put far more into their respective appointments than they receive in compensation. They work in relative anonymity and ask only their recommendations be thoughtfully considered.
Appointees serving on the city’s advisory boards truly are giving back to their community.

Letter - Morningside project not as popular as some think it is

To the editor,
Regarding the Morningside project, I don't think the mayor and the county board chairman have the support they think they have. I have talked to maybe 30 folks who are also taxpayers in Glencoe, Brownton and Hutch that are in amazement that this project is still a topic.
You are (considering) adding a lot of truck traffic to the intersection of Morningside and 212, already proven to be a dangerous intersection.
