A splash pad? - Our view: Interesting idea, worth working for

It would seem from our highly informal, unscientific weekly poll question there is a group of folks out there who are interested in the creation of a splash pad in a Glencoe city park. Interesting idea? Yes. Worthy of discussion and consideration? Absolutely. For 2020? Probably not.

GSL, Hutch look at 2020 soccer cooperative

Glencoe-Silver Lake has had a soccer program for many years, but in recent years has struggled to have enough players to maintain a healthy program.
While the district has been able to maintain a girls’ soccer program, the school hasn’t had a varsity boys’ program in a few years, fielding only a junior varsity team and most recently joining a cooperative with Mayer Lutheran, Watertown-Mayer and Central schools.

Longtime Glencoe firefighters stepping aside

They don’t remember the first call they went on, the dates of specific major events or even the locations or significant details of fire calls. After 20-plus years as a Glencoe volunteer firefighter, it’s the people they helped and their fellow firefighters that mattered the most.
Earlier this month, Jamie Voigt and Jim Schroepfer Jr. retired. Voigt turned in his pager with 21 years of service to the department, Schroepfer with 20. Both men will be allowed to keep the helmets they wore as firefighters. Voigt will use his turn out gear when burning brush in his job with Glencoe Public Works.

The ‘Stones’ and a pickaxe helped Glencoe man win medallion hunt

As he scrambled from the west end of 10th Street to his house on North Hennepin Avenue Friday afternoon, Jan. 10, Mark Simons wondered if other people were as close to finding the Glencoe Chamber of Commerce’s medallion as he believed he was.
A short time later, Simons had unearthed the medallion from a frozen flowerbed beneath the DQ sign. The pickaxe he hustled home to get was the only way he was going to retrieve the medallion and claim the $500 Glencoe Bucks prize donated by Crow River Snow Pros.
