Former Brownton police officer gets jail time, probation

A former Brownton police officer will spend 60 days in jail and serve two years on probation as part of his sentence for electronically soliciting a child to engage in sexual contact.

Glencoe’s winter parking rules return Friday

Glencoe police are reminding residents the city’s snowbird ordinance will be enacted Friday, Nov. 1.
The city’s snowbird ordinance states no person shall park or leave any vehicle, attended or unattended upon any avenue, street or highway within the city, between 1 a.m. and 6 p.m., or until the street has been plowed curb to curb, whichever is later. Winter parking shall last from Nov. 1 through April 1 each winter season.

GSL hosting Veterans Day program

Glencoe-Silver Lake Junior-Senior High School will host its annual Veterans Day program Monday, Nov. 11, 10 a.m., in the school’s purple gymnasium.

Missing man found, county sheriff investigating

The Glencoe-area man McLeod County Sheriff’s deputies were looking for northeast of Glencoe Sunday and Monday has been located and is safe and deputies are investigating possible charges for a property crime.
The man notified his family Monday evening. The man was safe and accounted for around 8:30 p.m., said Tim Langenfeld, the sheriff’s chief deputy.

Silver Lake Ambulance Service needs volunteers

A shortage of volunteers is becoming an increasing problem for any organization these days. It is not rare for an organization to disband because of the lack of volunteers.
The Silver Lake Ambulance Service is not immune to this issue, but the continued struggle to find volunteers could mean the end to this valuable service to the community.
The ambulance service in Silver Lake is constantly recruiting, according to Ambulance Chief Ashley Ardolf-Mason.

We need regular ways to hold presidents accountable

“I ask how and why this decision was reached,” Utah Sen. Mitt Romney said in the Senate recently. He was calling for an investigation into President Trump’s decision to pull U.S. forces out of Syria.
“Was there no chance for diplomacy? Are we so weak and so inept diplomatically that Turkey forced the hand of the United States of America?”
Good questions, but here’s a wager: If the Senate does launch an investigation, would you bet that Romney or any other senator will even get close to posing them directly to the president?
I didn’t think so.

Pass the levy vote – Our view: Operating levy is investment in communities

Voters in the Glencoe-Silver Lake School District will go to the polling place Tuesday, Nov. 5, and cast ballots in the district’s operating levy referendum. We believe GSL’s request is both reasonable and prudent, a wise investment in the future of the communities within the district.

Eileen West, 85, of Hutchinson

Eileen “Tootie” G. West, 85, of Hutchinson, formerly Brownton, passed away Sunday, Oct. 20, at Harmony River Living Center in Hutchinson.
A memorial service was held Saturday, Oct. 26, 11 a.m. at Brownton Congregational Church in Brownton, with interment in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Brownton.
Pastor Merline Duering was the officiating clergy.
Deanna Meyer was the organist. Kristen Hansch was the soloist performing, “Part the Waters/I Need Thee Every Hour” and “Amazing Grace (My Chains are Gone).”

Elsie Clark, 83, of Norwood Young America, passed away Friday, Oct. 25, at GlenFields Living with Care in Glencoe.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Nov. 23, 11 a.m., at All Saints Lutheran Church in Norwood Young America, with interment at a later date at Mau Cemetery in Norwood Young America.
A gathering of family and friends will be held Saturday, Nov. 23, 9 to 11 a.m., two hours prior to the service at the church.
