Common Cup Ministries 2019-20 school supply drive underway

Common Cup Ministry is collecting school supplies for children in need for 2019-20 school year.
Last year, approximately 500 children in McLeod County applied for, and received supplies and a backpack. A transformer failure at the McLeod County Courthouse in Glencoe left workers in the dark.
Just after 10 a.m. Monday, July 8, one of three 250-kilovolt amp (KVA) transformers in a case outside the sheriff’s office on the southwest corner of the courthouse complex at the corner of East 10th Street and North Hennepin Avenue failed.

Group blends passion for gardening with service to community

There’s a group of residents who enjoy the chance to practice a hobby they cherish while giving back to their community. They see it as a win-win for themselves and Glencoe alike.

City Center bathroom project moving toward deadline

To the editor,
We are excited to provide an update on the current fundraising campaign for remodeling the west wing restrooms at the Glencoe City Center. Earlier this spring the city council authorized the campaign with the goal of raising $30,000 to match the $102,000 that has already been committed to the project. Amounts previously committed include the City of Glencoe for $50,000 and private donations of $52,000.
We’re pleased to report that in the first seven weeks of the campaign we’ve raised roughly $22,000. This means we’re only $8,000 away from our goal.

Why scientists disagree on the ‘Green New Deal’

To the editor,
It is important for the public to understand that the debate on alternative energy has scientists and experts on both sides of the issue. Generally, the pro-alternative energy experts are tax subsidized and the experts who oppose the alternative energy mandates found in the Green New Deal are not tax subsidized.

It's your city council – Our view: If you want something, just ask

Glencoe residents have a good understanding of how to get their point of view out via social media. There is a percentage of the community that seems to make good use of Facebook to express views on city policies and opinions on projects the city council has discussed.

Plan ahead: Take the time to sit down and talk

To the editor,
Well, it’s time we have that talk.
It may feel uncomfortable. You might be embarrassed and there could be some giggling about it as well, but it’s imperative we have this talk. No, I am not talking about the birds and bees. I’m referring to talking with our loved ones, whether a spouse, parent, in-law, grandparent or a friend, about establishing a plan for them as they age.
