It was supposed to be a fairly busy week for the Plato American Legion Post 641 baseball team, yet circumstances conspired against the squad as games at Norwood and Hutchinson were postponed.
Instead, all Plato got in last week was a doubleheader against Holy Family in Victoria on Tuesday, June 25, with Post 641 splitting the twinbill vs. the hosts.
Plato came up on the short end of a 13-5 decision in one game, while coming out on top 4-2 in the other contest. Both games were played as six-inning affairs.

A doubleheader split with Hutchinson Junior Legion squad helped spring the Glencoe VFW Post 5102 baseball team to three wins out of four games last week.
Glencoe took a narrow loss in the first game of the Hutch twinbill, falling 6-4 to the visitors in six innings.
With Hutchinson leading 3-1, Glencoe rallied for a pair of runs to knot the game at 3-all. However, the visitors bounced back for three more runs in the top of the sixth to take a 6-3 edge.
The hosts attempted to rally in their final turn at-bat, with Drew Hedtke leading off the sixth with a double.

Parking was the topic of conversation at the Silver Lake City Council’s quarterly meeting on Monday night.
The council approved a resolution limiting parking in front of Lakeside Elementary School. Parking will be limited on the east side of the 200 block of Lake Avenue South between Cleveland Street and Merrill Street between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, Sept. 1 through May 31.
Regular parking will be in effect outside the listed dates and times.

St. John’s of Biscay and Grace Bible Church of Silver Lake are co-hosting a special “Shotgun Blast” presentation Sunday, July 14.
Guest shooter Aaron Gould of the Gould Brothers, who have performed all over the United States, will demonstrate his trick shooting and share his personal testimony.
Starting at 11:30 a.m., food will be available and there will be archery, fishing for prizes, and a variety of other games for kids, as well as adults, to try out.

A tentative settlement of approximately $34 million has been reached in the Diocese of New Ulm bankruptcy case, which involves 93 claimants who were sexually abused as children by credibly accused clergy throughout the diocese, including Glencoe and Silver Lake.
