Blue Jays top Bruins in 13 innings on walk-off homer

Alex Troska drove in a run Plato’s first run against Brownton with a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning of a 3-2 win in 13 innings over Crow River Valley League rival Brownton on a sweltering afternoon at Bluejay Stadium Saturday, June 29. The Blue Jays rallied from a 1-0 deficit in the long pitcher’s duel.

Plato Legion splits twinbill

It was supposed to be a fairly busy week for the Plato American Legion Post 641 baseball team, yet circumstances conspired against the squad as games at Norwood and Hutchinson were postponed.
Instead, all Plato got in last week was a doubleheader against Holy Family in Victoria on Tuesday, June 25, with Post 641 splitting the twinbill vs. the hosts.
Plato came up on the short end of a 13-5 decision in one game, while coming out on top 4-2 in the other contest. Both games were played as six-inning affairs.

Blue Jays top Bruins in 13 innings on walk-off homer

A walk-off win over Brownton was sandwiched in-between a pair of losses to Cologne last week as the Plato Blue Jays enter the final month of the season with a .500 record.
The Blue Jays began last week’s three-game stretch by taking on Cologne in a Tuesday night matchup on June 25.
Both the Hollanders and Plato are neck-and-neck, just outside the top tier of Crow River Valley League squads this season. However, it was Cologne that surged past the Blue Jays in the mid-week contest.

Glencoe VFW splits Hutch doubleheader

A doubleheader split with Hutchinson Junior Legion squad helped spring the Glencoe VFW Post 5102 baseball team to three wins out of four games last week.
Glencoe took a narrow loss in the first game of the Hutch twinbill, falling 6-4 to the visitors in six innings.
With Hutchinson leading 3-1, Glencoe rallied for a pair of runs to knot the game at 3-all. However, the visitors bounced back for three more runs in the top of the sixth to take a 6-3 edge.
The hosts attempted to rally in their final turn at-bat, with Drew Hedtke leading off the sixth with a double.

Bruins fall in extra-innings classic

A pair of victories just wasn’t in the cards for Brownton last week. After an easy-breezy 11-1 win over LeSueur in a non-league game on Wednesday, June 26, the Bruins came up on the short end of a 3-2, 13-inning loss at Plato on Saturday, June 29.
Wednesday night’s game was over not long after it started. Nathan Schultz led off the home half of the first inning with a single and was later driven home by Ryan Grams, with Schuette scoring on a wild pitch for a 2-0 Bruins lead.

Regular parking will be in effect outside the listed dates and times.

County approves insurance for those on assistance

The McLeod County Board of Commissioners, by the suggestion of the county’s Health and Human Services Department, approved PrimeWest, a private insurer, for the county’s families and children who qualify, those on MinnesotaCare and for those on medical assistance through MNSure.
The Minnesota Department of Human Services published a request for proposals to provide health care services to those who qualify for medical assistance — usually a combination of various factors like economic standing and number of dependents.

MnDOT now requiring two-year contract from Trailblazer

At a Trailblazer Transit Board meeting June 26, the joint powers of McLeod, Wright and Sibley counties discussed the Minnesota Department of Transportation’s (MnDOT) new contract obligations.
The new requirement between MnDOT and transit boards across the state calls for two-year contracts as opposed to one-year contracts.
The most significant change is that MnDOT is asking for two years of budgetary information from Trailblazer while allowing for more fiscal flexibility on Trailblazer’s end, though it’s not entirely clear how the added elasticity will impact public transit.
