Panthers settle for split

Despite being upended in one of its two road games last week, the Glencoe-Silver Lake boys’ basketball team remained in the thick of the hunt for both a top finish in the Wright County Conference West as well as a No. 1 seed for the upcoming Section 2AA Tournament.
The Panthers entered this week at 13-5 overall and 4-2 in the WCC West after claiming a lopsided win at Dassel-Cokato on Tuesday, Jan. 27, followed by a disappointing loss at New London-Spicer three nights later.

Rough week for GSL girls

What had been a high-flying Glencoe-Silver Lake girls basketball team was brought back down to Earth last week as a six-game winning streak was replaced by a two-game losing skid.

With one of their top players, Maddie Monahan, dealing with the flu bug, the Panthers fortunes turned for the worse as the young squad fell from the top of the Wright County Conference West standings.

Short-handed gymnasts still shine

Competing without three varsity members, the Glencoe-Silver Lake gymnastics team hosted Annandale in a conference dual meet on Thursday, Jan. 29.

While GSL fell 130.525-118.155 to the Cardinals, coach Kim Hahn was pleased with her team’s effort.

Wrestlers lose to Hutchinson

A difficult stretch for the Glencoe-Silver Lake wrestling team continued last week with a heavy loss to a neighboring squad.
The Panthers traveled to Hector on Friday, Jan. 29 for a dual meet against McLeod County rival Hutchinson/Buffalo Lake and came up on the short end of a 54-15 decision.
GSL lost or forfeited the first six matches to fall behind 33-0.
