County administrator receives positive performance evaluation

McLeod County Administrator Patrick Melvin received a favorable review after a closed session Dec. 30 to evaluate his 2014 performance.
According to a statement released by McLeod County, Melvin earned an average score of 2.5 on a scale of one to three, with one indicating “needs improvement” and three indicating “above expectations.”

Schrupp, Ziemer sworn into new terms on Glencoe City Council

It took the second meeting of January, but the full Glencoe City Council was officially sworn into office Jan. 20 when Gary Ziemer and John Schrupp were given the oath of office for another term. Both were absent from the Jan. 6 reorganization meeting when newly elected Allen Robeck was sworn in early in order to have a quorum to complete the end of the 2014 business.

Historical groups seek partnership

The Glencoe City Council, at its Tuesday, Jan. 20, meeting, approved a resolution of support for a plan to form a partnership among the various historical groups in the county.
(The Council met on a Tuesday because of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday on Monday, Jan. 19.)
The partnership will seek a state heritage partnership grant to hire a director to coordinate efforts, write future grants and lead programs that would benefit all the local groups.

9th-annual Blizzard Blast set for Jan. 30

Blizzard Blast, the annual fundraiser for Allina Health Hospice Foundation, is set for Friday, Jan. 30, at 5:30 p.m., at the Glencoe City Center, 1107 11th St. E, Glencoe.
This will be the ninth year of the event.
Tickets are $30 per person, and include dinner (catered by Chef Craig) and live music by Rhinestone.
The fundraiser also includes live and silent auctions and a raffle.

It was easily the biggest week of the season so far for the Glencoe-Silver Lake boys’ basketball team. 
The Panthers, coming off a narrow overtime loss at Annandale on Friday, Jan. 16, returned home for a three-game stretch rife with implications for the remainder of their season and claimed three victories.
Then there was the topic of Keaton Anderson’s historic achievement.
