Brewers head into break with a pair of wins for the season

Glencoe will host Winsted tonight, travel to Gaylord, Watertown

The July 4 holiday break came at a good time for the Glencoe town baseball club – right after a pair of wins that evened the team’s record at 9-9.
But Glencoe won’t have time to rest on its laurels. The Brewers will play Winsted tonight, July 6, 7:30 p.m., at Vollmer Field and then make the trek to Gaylord tomorrow, July 7, 7:30 p.m., to face the Islanders. Glencoe will travel to Watertown Sunday, 2 p.m.

Mayor's Corner: Volunteers cruicial to events that bring people together

I would like to point out the efforts of the volunteers and organizations who worked hard to put together an outstanding Glencoe Days celebration last weekend. There seemed to be large numbers of attendees Friday and Saturday nights at Oak Leaf Park. The parade Saturday was great, except for a very brief shower.
I was told the fun run/walk was a success also. The car show Sunday was also a big hit, with a wide variety of cars, trucks, bikes and even a tractor. In conclusion, young people were selected as Glencoe Royalty at the pageant Sunday afternoon.

Limiting access to polls is not how a democracy works

By Peter Rossi
Last week, Sen. Kyrsten Sinema, R-Arizona, took to the Senate floor to declare her opposition to altering filibuster rules in order to advance the two Democratic voting rights packages: the Freedom to Vote Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act. By doing so, she once again betrayed the trust the people of Arizona placed in her, and made our country a worse place in the process.

Morningside-212 fix – Our view: Drivers must to pay attention

There have been three nasty crashes in the past week at the intersection of Highway 212 and Morningside Avenue. In all three crashes, the commonality seems to be somebody didn’t heed the stop sign.
You can’t blame the intersection for driver inattentiveness.
Instead, we should be thanking the Minnesota Department of Transportation for doing all it can to make the intersection safe. But at the end of the day, there’s only so much the state can do. It’s an intersection currently controlled by a four-way stop. Drivers need to pay attention.
