McLeod Food Shelf hires new executive director

The McLeod Food Shelf hired former United Community Action Partnership outreach worker and tax site coordinator Carrie Lewis as their executive director on Dec. 18. Lewis succeeds long-time executive director Lennie Albers, who held the position for ten years.

Stroll for Hope ends partnership with American Cancer Society; starts one with Hutchinson Health Foundation

Stroll for Hope, formerly known as Relay for Life of McLeod County, has ended its partnership with the American Cancer Society and partnered with the Hutchinson Health Foundation as of Jan. 1. Stroll for Hope Lead Chair Erika Smith says the organization had been discussing the “pros and cons” of staying or leaving the partnership with the American Cancer Society over the last year.
Smith says while the American Cancer Society does “amazing things” with the funds raised by Stroll for Hope, they don’t always have a “clear picture” of how those funds are utilized.

United Way of McLeod County receives 2023 Touchstone Energy Community Award

McLeod Cooperative Power awarded its 2023 Touchstone Energy Community Award to the United Way of McLeod County. This yearly award recognizes a local non-profit or community group that had a positive impact within McLeod Cooperative Power’s service territory. The United Way of McLeod County was one of nine nominees for this year’s award and was acknowledged for its youth scholarship program, which provided 115 scholarships to local youth in the past year.

A memorial service took place Monday, Jan. 29, 2024, 11 a.m., at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glencoe, with interment following in the church cemetery. A gathering of family and friends took place Monday, Jan. 29, from 9 to 11 a.m., two hours prior to the service at the church.

Lois Jane Siewert, 80, of Hamburg, MN, passed away peacefully at Savanna Prairie Assisted Living in Kimball, MN, Monday, Jan. 15, 2024.
A funeral service took place Monday, Jan. 22, 2024, at 11 a.m. at Emanuel Lutheran Church (18175 County Road 50) in Hamburg, with Vicar Todd Bentz as officiant.
Visitation took place one hour prior to the service Monday, Jan. 22 at the church. Interment was in Emanuel Lutheran Cemetery.

Betty Oelfke, 88

Betty Oelfke, 88, of Arlington, MN, passed away peacefully at her home Monday, Jan. 22, 2024, following a very brief battle with cancer.
Visitation took place from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 25, 2024, at Emanuel Lutheran Church, Hamburg, MN.
A funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 26, 2024, at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Hamburg, with visitation one hour prior to the funeral. Vicar Todd Bentz will officiate.
Interment will follow the service at the church cemetery. Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers.
