Trailblazer working on funding plan to serve Seneca workers

Trailblazer Transit staff sees an opportunity to help Seneca workers get to and from work each day, but doing so will take some flexibility from the transit provider and the counties it serves.

GSL heads into baseball sections as WCC West conference co-champions

Thanks to a pair of wins in the final week of the regular season, the Glencoe-Silver Lake High School baseball team is rightfully heading into the sectional playoffs as the co-champions of the Wright County Conference West.
Brimming with confidence after defeating Dassel-Cokato twice and a win over Hutchinson, 13-6, in the season finale Friday, May 29, the Panthers opened section tournament play Tuesday, June 1, at Vollmer Field against Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted. Details of the game were not available when the Chronicle went to press.

Panthers’ girls’ track earns all-conference, boys fall short

Members of the Glencoe-Silver Lake girls’ track team ran its way into some of the top places last week at home while the boys’ team ran up short.
The girls earned second place against seven other teams during the Wright County Conference West meet, and the boys came in sixth place. Five Panthers’ girls also earned all-conference honors in four total events – Ellie Sonju in the 100-meter dash, Malayh Metcalf in the 3,200-meter run and Zoe Ruschmeier in the pole vault. The 4x200-meter relay team of Brooklyn Christianson, Mylea Monahan, Metcalf and Sonju also nabbed first place in that event.

Panthers open softball section playoffs vs. Breck

For the Glencoe-Silver Lake softball team, it all came down to Tuesday’s night game, June 1, against the Breck Mustangs.
The home subsection game determined if the Panthers would continue their season or if they would be finished, and the results were not available before The Chronicle went to press.
“If we lose, we are done,” head coach Taylor Jones said. “If we win, we are in the eight-team double-elimination tournament.”

Brewers on a two-game roll

After a win over St. Bonifacius and a rain-out against Winsted during past week, the Glencoe Brewers are working on a nice winning streak thanks to a 5-0 win over New Germany Monday afternoon.
The Brewers have won three of their last four games to build a 5-4 record. They’ll play their next two games within the friendly confines of Vollmer Field in Glencoe against Hamburg Thursday, June 3, 7:30 p.m., before taking on a powerhouse Watertown team Thursday, June 10, 7:30 p.m. The Brewers then hit the road for games at Carver Saturday, June 12, 2 p.m., and Cologne, Sunday, June 13, 2 p.m.

Plato thumps Cologne, drops heartbreaker to Brownton

While there are some positive signs for a solid season, the Plato Blue Jays are looking for consistency early this season. Thus far, uniformity has been elusive.
At 2-4 the Blue Jays have demonstrated the ability to score runs. Defense and pitching have been a challenge. Plato has scored 42 runs while allowing 32 runs in its first six games. Conversely, the Blue Jays are averaging two errors a game in their setbacks.

Dairy Day offers lessons from the farm

Ben Donnay will represent his family’s farm, Sunkist Farm, at Dairy Day in Glencoe Thursday, June 3. Donnay’s planning to answer any questions people have about the dairy industry, along with bringing one of his family’s 50 cows.

Boys' track falls short at conference meet

Tison Werner finished fifth on the 400-meter dash at the Glencoe-Silver Lake meet Tuesday, May 25. He also finished sixth on the 4x400-meter relay team.
