Hwy 7 roundabout project by Lester Prairie begins July 17

WILLMAR, Minn. – The Minnesota Department of Transportation Highway 7 roundabout project near Lester Prairie gets underway Monday, July 17. Work is scheduled to be completed by early October. Start and end dates could change due to weather and other unforeseeable circumstances.
MnDOT, in partnership with McLeod County, is building a roundabout at the intersection of Highway 7 and County Road 1 near Lester Prairie. Work includes the addition of ADA-accessible sidewalks and a multiuse trail on all sides of the roundabout.

Lauer retires after nearly 20 years as Veterans Service Officer

On May 25 Jim Lauer retired from his position as the McLeod County Veterans Service officer, a position Lauer has held since November 2004.
Prior to his most recent position, Lauer served in the United States Army after his commissioning at West Point from 1982 until 2003, retiring with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.


Glencoe City Council interviews council candidates

The Glencoe City Council interviewed applicants for the open councilor at large position at their workshop Monday afternoon.
The city received a total of nine applications before the deadline at noon on Monday.
Applications were received from Yodee Rivera, Allen Robeck, Kevin Dietz, Sandy Armstrong, Bob Scheidt, Jon Dahlke, Arnold Brinkman, Milan Alexander and Bob Senst.
Senst later made the decision to withdraw his application.


Silver Lake puts the community in community pool

The news of the closure of the Silver Lake pool only a couple weeks into the summer season and days before a predicted steamy long holiday weekend was a blow to the community of Silver Lake.
The Silver Lake City Council met Wednesday, July 5, to discuss next steps and the future of the 2023 pool season if there was going to be one.
Shortly after the pool opened for the year, reports of patrons cutting their feet. The council made the decision to require water shoes, before the Minnesota Department of Health closed the pool indefinitely.

Marion Evelyn Matousek, age 93, of Winsted passed away on Friday, June 30, at The Cokato Manor.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, July 6 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted. Father Matthew Wiering will be the Celebrant.
Interment will be at St. Joseph Cemetery in Silver Lake.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, July 6 one hour prior to Mass at the church.
Casket Bearers will be nephews and great nephews: Bernie Navratil, David Navratil and Curt Navratil, Justin Navratil, Luke Navratil, Leon Pesina and Mike Pesina.
