Bruins get another easy league win

If you’re an offensive savant you would have suffered last Wednesday night as the Gaylord Islanders snuck out a low scoring win in a rematch game from 2022’s state tournament matchup highlighted by the Fox 9 Townball Tour stop.
The only run of the game came in the bottom of the fourth inning when Gaylord’s Mitch Mathews scored on an overthrow.
The Bruins threatened several times getting two or more runners on in the first, third, fourth, and fifth (bases loaded) innings, but could not get the clutch hit.

MnDOT to host open house for Highway 7 roundabout project

WILLMAR, Minn. – The Minnesota Department of Transportation invites the public to attend an in-person construction open house on Wednesday, June 28, to learn about the upcoming Highway 7 roundabout project near Lester Prairie. The open house will be held from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. at Lester Prairie City Hall, 37 Juniper St. N.
There are no formal presentations and people are invited to stop by at their convenience during open house hours. MnDOT staff and the contractor will be available to answer questions about the construction phase of the project, including the timeline and detours.

Luce Line Trail Scavenger Hunt

Would you know an elm oyster if you spotted one? How about a mourning dove or anemone?
All three are among 20 living and nonliving things listed on the Parks and Trails Council of Minnesota’s 2023 Scavenger Hunt featuring the Luce Line State Trail, which launches June 5 and continues through August 27. The Friends of the Luce Line West is co-sponsoring the contest to help trail users become more aware of the bounty of wildlife and landmarks along the Luce Line – and have fun while doing it, said Steve Cook, the group’s president.

Mayor breaks tie, says no to compensation study

In the City of Glencoe, the mayor doesn’t have a vote on the council, but steps in to break ties when needed. With the council down a member, it again came down to Mayor Ryan Voss to cast the deciding vote.
Staffing in the city, as it is everywhere, has become increasingly challenging. City staff has presented information to the council about having an employee compensation study done to ensure the city wages are in line with like communities.
The council was given the information for an April workshop which was canceled, and the matter was discussed briefly in their May workshop.

County to remove rural recycling sites

It is often said that a few bad people ruin things for all of us. Well, unfortunately that is the case for McLeod County’s rural recycling program.
The McLeod County Board, at its Tuesday afternoon meeting, voted to remove the seven rural recycling sites located throughout the county.

Death Notice: Edward “Pete” Pinske, 92, Gaylord

Edward “Pete” Pinske, age 92, of Gaylord passed away Tuesday, June 27, at Bayside Manor in Gaylord.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 8, 11 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church with interment in the church cemetery.

A gathering of family and friends will be Friday, July 7, from 4 - 7 p.m. at the Egesdal Funeral Home in Gaylord and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.

Bruins split league games, ready for Town Ball Tour

The Brownton Bruins dismantled the Hamburg Hawks on Sunday evening behind an impressive pitching performance by Ryan Grams.
The Bruins broke a 1-1 tie in the top of the second inning with second basemen Jon Werner’s RBI single, scoring Taylor Schuette, giving Brownton the lead 2-1. Center fielder Andy Prieve would then double to score Werner, before coming around to score himself on Seth Schuette’s RBI single, making the score 4-1.

Brewers make top of standings opponent Watertown sweat, fall late

There was plenty of offense to go around in this game where the two teams combined to tally 30 hits. The Brewers stranded 14 runners on base, which would prove to be fatal in this one.

The Plato Blue Jays remain undefeated in league play

The Plato Blue Jays would earn another road victory over the tough Brownton Bruins in a back and forth affair.
Plato took an early lead on Matt Odegaard’s RBI double in the top of the first inning that brought Reece Schwirtz (single and stolen base) around to score, giving Plato a 1-0 lead. Plato would get another run in the top of the second inning on Dane Schwirtz’s RBI double that plated Mitchell Boesche (error on Brownton’s short stop) giving Plato a 2-0 advantage.
