Greg Copas, a mail carrier for Glencoe’s post office, delivered mail to a variety of businesses last Thursday morning, Aug. 27, on the corner of Hennepin Avenue and East 13th Street. Snow fell heavily as blusterous winds swept across Lake Mills, Iowa, during a sudden snowstorm April 4, 1983. Trucks were stuck in their tracks and people hunkered home from the cold and dangerous roads.
This didn’t stop Greg Copas, however, as he was determined to get to the post office and start his first day on the job. He braved the weather and made it on time, but the mail delivering truck didn’t. His excitement for his new journey as a window clerk and postmaster replacement was short-lived that day as he didn’t even have to finish the day’s work.

Finally, it’s back to school GSL students heading back to class

Under the school district’s hybrid learning model employed to keep students as safe as possible during a pandemic, Wednesday, Sept. 9, will have all students at home. Thursday, Sept. 10, the students with last names starting with A through L get to return to school.

Glencoe woman wants soldiers remembered at Fort Snelling redesign

When it comes to the redesign of historic Fort Snelling, Stephanie Chappell is concerned. The Glencoe resident believes the purpose of the outpost is being overshadowed.
Historians with the Minnesota Historical Society respectfully disagree.
Chappell fears the redesign of a portion of the land near the confluence of the Minnesota and Mississippi rivers is too focused on the Dakota Indians, the original inhabitants of the land. The fort offered white settlers in the area and the Dakota protection from more aggressive tribes, notably the Ojibwe, during the 19th Century.
