Prep work

Matt Conklin was one of several volunteers working Saturday to prepare the Sterner Meyer BMX Park for racing. Using heavy equipment, he flattened and smoothed sections of the track. Later, Tami and Darron Alsleben applied a water and gel to solidify sections of the track. The Buffalo Creek BMX Club plans to begin practice racing this week, weather permitting.

St. Pius X’s parish priest wants faithful to remember what matters most

The Rev. Stubeda is leaving St. Pius X Catholic Church after 13 years leading the congregation. He’s pleased with the growth of the parish’s service to the Latino community. He’s been reassigned to a faith community serving churches in Green Valley, Tracy and Milroy.

Coming out of the shutdown, downtown gym has new owners

Holly and Troy Smedley are the new owners of Glencoe Fitness. It replaces Snap Fitness on East 11th Street in downtown Glencoe. Holly managed the game for the past year before the couple acquired it.

Bruins off to solid start

Although they got off to a slow start against Winsted Friday evening in Brownton, the Bruins battled back and defeated Carver Sunday afternoon, thanks to a solid three-pronged pitching effort.Against Winsted, Brownton right-hander Ryan Grams (bottom, right) threw eight innings and allowed four runs. He had five strikeouts in the outing.

Historic Enterprise Building will have a new story to tell in Glencoe

Steven Krueger bought the historic Enterprise Building in August 2018, and he has many plans for it. Whether he decides to keep the main floor an office or turn it into a business, he wants it to play a role in the Glencoe community.

County board seeks to ‘preserve the constitutional rights of citizens’

The McLeod County Board took a second stab at a resolution intended to uphold and defend the constitutions of the United States and the State of Minnesota and the Bill of Rights in response to Gov. Tim Walz’s executive orders at its meeting June 16.
The item was tabled at the request of County Attorney Mike Junge at the June 2 meeting.

Historic Enterprise Building will have a new story to tell in Glencoe

The Enterprise Building has been standing tall at the corner of Glencoe’s East 11 Street and North Ives Avenue since its construction in the late 19th Century.
It has housed many different businesses and people over the years and will continue doing that with its new owner, Steven Krueger of White Bear Lake.
Krueger bought the building in August of 2018 for $60,000 and has been renovating it since. He has big plans for it and hopes to keep it as a symbol of the community.

GSL making plans for more pandemic learning

Like hundreds of other school districts around Minnesota, Glencoe-Silver Lake School District administrators are working on a significant piece of homework this summer, a project they must have ready in less than a month.
Assuming the coronavirus pandemic will still be readjusting the landscape of normalcy, the Minnesota Department of Education has directed school districts around the state to have plans assembled for the coming school year. The plans for conducting more distance learning, school with students on-site and a hybrid of the two are to be in place by the end of July.

He doesn’t want people to fret over his farewell. He’d prefer parishioners and all the folks he prayed with and cared for would focus on the lessons he delivered based on the scripture lessons more so than his looming departure from Glencoe.
