Blue Jays snare No. 2 seed for region tourney

The Plato Blue Jays are back in the Region 7C Tournament following last week’s two-game sweep of Young America in the Crow River Valley League (CRVL) playoffs.
However, the Blue Jays received a little favor from Cologne, who knocked Brownton out of postseason contention via a 2-1 series upset of the Bruins. 

Stunning Cologne rally eliminates Brownton from postseason

The Cologne Hollanders pulled off a come-from-behind win in the top of the ninth inning Sunday afternoon to advance to the Region 7C tournament and bring an end to the Brownton Bruins’ 2015 season.
The Hollanders trailed 3-2 going into the ninth when they rallied for four runs to pull out a 6-3 win.
Cologne had started the game’s scoring with a run in the third, scored when Tim Swanson hit into a fielder’s choice play with the bases loaded.

Brewers sweep Dutchmen, prepare to face Green Isle

With a two-game sweep of New Germany in its best-of-three Crow River Valley League (CRVL) playoff series, the Glencoe Brewers have qualified for the regional tournament for the sixth time in the last eight seasons.
“They were both good games and we were glad to get two wins,” Brewers manager Stephen Wiblemo said of the CRVL playoffs. “We are pleased to count ourselves in among a group of teams that are still alive.”

Metcalf earns coaching honor from MCCCA

Glencoe-Silver Lake assistant cross-country running coach Josh Metcalf was named the Class A “Assistant Coach of the Year” by the Minnesota Cross-Country Coaches Association during a ceremony at Eastview High School in Apple Valley on Monday, Aug. 3.
Metcalf, also the GSL boys’ track and field head coach, earned the award for his seven years of service to the Panthers’ cross-country program. He was one of six coaches honored on Monday.

330 enjoy the music, weather at SL park

The Silver Lake Music in the Park series continued July 23 on a perfect summer evening with over 330 people enjoying the music provided by Alice and the Ol’ Boys: Alice Nowak, Jerome Kadlec, Jerry Kahle, Kendall Kubasch, August Makovsky, Frank Melmer and Dean Totusek. The Mariners Club of Faith Presbyterian Church served lunch.
