WHEREAS, the City of Glencoe has Boards and Commissions that serve an advisory role to the City Council; and,
WHEREAS, the Board and Commissions include, Planning and Industrial Commission, Airport Commission, Library Board, Park Board, Cemetery Commission, and City Center Board; and,

Visitors: Chris Knutson, John Rodeberg, John Mueller, Carolyn Westphal Mayor Schwarze called the meeting to order.
Carolyn Westphal came to ask Council to forgive her snow bird ticket that she was issued in January. Council upheld the ticket.

Remembering their friend

Seven members of the Silver Lake American Legion Post 141 visited a fellow member Larry Ardolf at the Good Samaritan Home in Howard Lake Saturday, April 18. Because of the pandemic, the legion members and members of Ardolf’s family visited with him through a window to Ardolf’s room. The group includes (kneeling) Kevin Carrigan, Cory Fouquette (main row) Kay Nowak, Norby Nowak, Leon Pesina, Virgil Vacek, Gerry Ardolf, Gary Mallak, Bonnie Ardolf, and Larry’s wife Joann Ardolf, (back row) Ron Miskosky, Gary Nowak, (not pictured) Bob Nowak.

Opening day

Plato’s Josh Kuehn (above) and his younger brother, Eli, enjoyed a round of golf Saturday afternoon at Glencoe Country Club. Gov. Tim Walz allowed golf courses to open as long as players practiced social distancing along with other measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19. After Eli Kuehn tapped in for a bogey on the par-3 10th hold, the elder Kuehn claimed he also finished with a bogey.

Walz picks Glencoe native for district court bench

Amber Donley, First District Court Judge

Glencoe native Amber Ramige Donley has been appointed as a district court judge in Minnesota’s First Judicial District.
Donley’s appointment will fill a vacancy occurring upon the retirement of the Judge Timothy J. Looby. It begins May 11. She will be chambered in Sibley County.

Dairy royalty

The McLeod County Dairy Association recently named its three dairy princesses at the 67th McLeod County Dairy Association Banquet & Dairy Princess Coronation. They are (from left) Grace Kohnen, Kiley Lickfelt and Emma Friauf. Friaf was also named Miss Congeniality. The Princesses can attend the May Training Seminar to compete to become a Princess Kay finalist. The training seminar / Princess Kay candidate selection is May 15-17. Kohnen is the daughter of the daughter of Jodi and John Kohnen of Dassel. Lickfelt is the daughter of Trudy Lickfelt and Ryan Lickfelt of Hutchinson.

Water works

Chad Draeger of Brownton Public Works was out flushing hydrants like the one near the intersection of North Third Street and North Fifth Avenue in Brownton last week. Flushing out the hydrants removed deposits that have settled in from the water lines over the winter. The city has about 60 hydrants generally flushed in the spring and fall
