Letter to the editor: Glencoe resident upset with city’s tree topping work

To the editor,
Thursday, Feb. 27, a day to be remembered.
Our neighbor had some tall ash trees on his boulevard and wanted the city to come and take them down. City workers came and started and another truck came and started on our trees on North Chandler Street.
One lost leaves last summer and the arboretum suggested the wet season was hard on maples and said to wait. We thought perhaps the city was taking that one down, but before we knew it, they continued through all three trees.

Letter to the editor: Man says Brownton residents want better service

To the editor,
In Brownton, our head maintenance man has supposedly been trying to take the test for the permit for our water treatment plant. I have heard from people who know there are all kinds of excuses why this doesn’t happen. Really, he doesn’t have to pass the test because the city council keeps approving raises whether he fulfills his requirements or not. He needs to be held accountable.
Our city hires someone to sign this paper. This has been going on for quite some time and needs to come to an end.

Get all the facts – Our view: Some closed sessions are necessary

We are not fans of closed sessions, even when they are conducted legally. It’s not a good look when elected officials toss around the term, ‘transparency’ and discuss business behind closed doors or talk amongst themselves to decide how an issue will be handled before the meeting begins. There’s reason to suspect it happens.
Conducting business behind closed doors includes the necessary evil of hearing a proposal to purchase real estate, property. State law allows government bodies to meet behind closed doors and consider a proposal to buy or sell property.
