Area man facing soaring insulin prices

He’d like to do more for his children. He’d like to upgrade the car he drives to and from work each day. But for Tim Becker, the rising cost of the insulin he needs to keep his health from spiraling out of control is too great.
A Glencoe High School graduate now living in New Auburn, Becker is like many diabetics who’ve seen the cost of insulin skyrocket over the past decade. A type-1 diabetic, he needs to keep his internal processing sugars properly. Without insulin, he said, the consequences could be life-threatening.

Letter to editor - Clean energy should not be a partisan issue to debate

To the editor,
To begin, I want to address Rep. Gruenhagen's comments regarding reprocessing nuclear waste. The Union of Concerned Scientists published a paper regarding reprocessing nuclear waste.
In their paper, they state "the French company AREVA, which reprocesses French spent nuclear fuel, claims that reprocessing" reduces the volume of waste by a factor of at least four. This statement is contradicted by recent data from the U.S. Department of Energy, which show that reprocessing greatly increases the total volume of radioactive waste, compared to direct disposal of spent fuel."

To the editor,
Every Fourth of July, we remember the Declaration of Independence; we remember the men and women who pledged their lives, fortunes, and sacred honor for this great country in order to make it a reality, and we remember those who fought to keep it free, now for 243 years.

Green New Deal - Our view: Everyone should give a little

If you’ve read this page regularly, you’ve seen the opinions of people who oppose and support the so-called New Green Deal, a proposal Democrats in Congress have pitched as a means to eliminate dependence on fossil fuels by 2030 and protect the planet from greenhouse gases and the environment for future generations.
They should be commended for starting the latest round of conversation on environmental protection.
