Stewart City Council moves forward with proposed street improvements

The Stewart City Council moved forward Monday night on three blocks worth of street work, and heard a request for more from a local business.
The City Council held an assessment hearing and awarded a bid for street reconstruction for two blocks of Martha Street and one block of East Street.
“This is mostly street surfacing work,” said Andy Kehren, an engineer with Bolton & Menk.

Brownton Council moves forward on priority list application process

The Brownton City Council continued its application process for priority listing for possible state and federal funding — either through grants or low-interest loans — to repair its sanitary sewer system.
The projected cost for the improvements is $2.34 million.
As part of the process, the City Council held a public hearing at its June 3 meeting. Although no one from the public attended, John Rodeberg of the engineering firm of Short Elliott Hendrickson (SEH), Inc., outlined the need to repair or replace most of the city’s sanitary sewer mains.

Stewartfest set for June 21-22

Stewartfest will be celebrated Saturday, June 21, and Sunday, June 22, in Stewart.
Events have been rearranged to make the former three-day celebration fit into two days.
Activities get under way early Saturday, with an 8 a.m. start for both the annual softball tournament (call 320-848-2857 to register a team), and citywide garage sales.
The first clue for the medallion hunt, with a $250 prize sponsored by First Minnesota Bank, will be posted in the city park at 10 a.m.

John Lipke to run for Legislature

Late Tuesday, June 3, John Lipke of Stewart, DFL, filed as a challenger to District 18B state Rep. Glenn Gruenhagen, R-Glencoe.
In the other state House race, District 18A state Rep. Dean Urdahl, R-Grove City, will square off against Steve Schiroo of Cokato and formerly of Glencoe.
Both county commissioner races will be contested, District 2 Commissioner Kermit Terlinden of Glencoe is being challenged by Douglas Krueger.

Stewart receives favorable bids on proposed street, utility work

The Stewart City Council received favorable bids for its proposed utility and surface improvements to East and Martha streets Monday night.
Engineer Andy Kehren of Bolton & Menk said four bids were received for the work, with the apparent low bid from M.R. Paving & Excavating, Inc., of New Ulm at $165,928. The engineer’s estimate for the cost of the work was $173,500.

Robert Adams, 82, of Glencoe

Robert "Bob" Adams (husband of Lois), 82, of Glencoe, died Wednesday, April 2, 2014, at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneaplis.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 5, at 11 a.m., at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glencoe, with interment following in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be Friday, April 4, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., at the Johnson-McBride Funeral Chapel in Glencoe, and will continue one hour prior to the service at he church on Saturday.

Pamela Kay Templin, 49, of Stewart

Pamela Kay Templin, 49, of Stewart, died Thursday, March 27, 2014, at Harmony River Living Center in Hutchinson.
A memorial service was held Monday, March 31, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Brownton with the Rev. R. Allan Reed officiating.
Robin Kruse was the organist and also sang “Amazing Grace.” The congregational hymns were “Just As I Am,” “I Know That My Redeemer Lives” and “How Great Thou Art.”
Honorary bearers were Kaleb Templin and Ella Templin. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Lori Barbara Siewert, 38, of Green Isle

Funeral services for Lori Barbara Siewert, 38, of Green Isle, were held Friday, March 28, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Green Isle. The Rev. Eric Rapp officiated.
Ms. Siewert died Saturday, March 22, 2014, at Ridgeview Sibley Medical Center in Arlington.
The organist was Julie Schwartz, and the soloist,  Diane Hoffman, sang “Amazing Grace.” Congregational hymns were “Beautiful Savior,”  “I Know That My Redeemer Lives” and “How Great Thou Art.”

Alvin Rudolph Schiroo, 79, Glencoe

Alvin Rudolph Schiroo, 79, of Glencoe, died Saturday, March 29, 2014, at Glencoe Regional Health Services long-term care unit.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 1, at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glencoe with the Rev. Ronald Mathison officiating.
Dawn Wolter was the organist, and the congregational hymns were “Beautiful Savior,” “What a Friend We Have in Jesus,” “Amazing Grace” and “I Know That My Redeemer Lives.”

Gordon E. Tapper, 88, of Hutchinson

Funeral services for Gordon “Gordy” Eugene Tapper, 88, of Hutchinson, were held Monday, March 24, at Faith Lutheran Church in Hutchinson. The Rev. Paulus Pilgrim officiated.
Mr. Tapper died Wednesday, March 19, 2014, at the Ecumen Oaks in Hutchinson.
Interment  was in the Monticello Riverside Cemetery in Monticello.
