Lester Prairie family involved in fatal Highway 212 crash

Two members of a Lester Prairie family died and two were seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash on Highway 212 in Carver County  Saturday shortly before 2 p.m.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, the deceased have been identified as Angelica Salas, 29, of Lester Prairie, and Jorge Salas, 6, both passengers in one of the vehicles. Jorge Salas, 29, the driver of the vehicle, and Omar Salas, 4, a passenger, of Lester Prairie, were both seriously injured.

Matthew Rodde, 33, of Excelsior, the driver of the other vehicle, had nonlife-threatening injuries.

Christensen requests recount

McLeod County 5th District Commissioner Jon Christensen has requested a recount of votes from the Nov. 4 ballot. Challenger Joe Nagel was the apparent winner in the Fifth District contest by a 34-vote margin.

The recount will take place Monday at 1 p.m. Christensen is responsible for the cost of the recount, which is estimated at $700.

The 5th District consists of one of the city of Hutchinson three precincts and Acoma and Hutchinson townships.

Glencoe City Council agenda includes updates, quotes

The Glencoe City Council will meet Monday at 7 p.m. in the Glencoe City Center.

Agenda topics include quotes for spray foam insulation at Glencoe Wine & Spirits, work on the north wall, a replat of the GlenTech Park Addition, and updates on the medical cannabis proposal, the airport and Economart.

County Board to meet in afternoon session

The McLeod County Board of Commissioners will meet Tuesday as usual, but in the afternoon rather than the morning to accommodate a training session the commissioners are involved in.

The meeting starts at 1 p.m. The agenda includes a continuation of discussion on the tobacco ordinance, a request from the solid waste department to buy a new forklift and a review of the material recovery facility's retrofit project, quotations on new windows for the health and human services building and the 2015 board meeting schedule, among other items.

Roger L. Mallak, 73, of Silver Lake

Roger Leonard Mallak, 73, of Silver Lake, died Friday, Nov. 7, 2014.
A concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial was Wednesday, Nov. 12,, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Silver Lake. The Revs. Tony Stubeda and Paul Schumacher were the concelebrants. Readers were Glenn Mallak and Jeff Mallak. Gift bearers were Matt and Blake Hahn. Special music was by Bobbi Ludewig.
Roger Mallak was born April 14, 1941, in Hale Township, McLeod County, the son of Dominic and Lucy E. (Mallak) Mallak.
He honorably served his country in the U.S. Navy.

Irene F. Cantin, 96, of Winsted

Irene F. Cantin, 96, of Winsted, died Nov. 8, 2014, at The Garden House in Winsted.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Tuesday, Nov. 11, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with the Rev. Paul Schumacher as celebrant. Alice Nowak was the organist.
Pallbearers were Lee Penas-Olson, Steve Olson, Ron Phillips, Tracy Jaskowiak and Melvin and Jason Bayerl.
Irene Cantin was born Jan. 30, 1918, in Howard Lake, the daughter of Albert and Lucy (Lueck) Aritt.

Daughter born to Miller family

Tom and Ashley Miller of Silver Lake announce the birth of their daughter, Avery Sue, on Monday, Oct. 27, 2014, at Hutchinson Health. Avery weighed 8 pounds, 9 ounces, and was 19 inches long. She is welcomed home by big brother Zachary. Grandparents are Lester and Zana  Miller of Hutchinson, Scott and Kari Graupmann of Plato, and Ed and Cindy Patnaude of Glencoe.
