Carver County deputy airlifted from crash

A Carver County sheriff’s deputy was seriously injured in a two-car crash Thursday shortly after 9 p.m., had to be extricated from his squad, and was airlifted to a medical facility.

Deputy Erick Boder, a 10-year veteran, was patrolling in Carver and traveling northbound on CSAH 11, just south of Fourth Street, when a southbound vehicle driven by Jason Horowitz, 46, of Carver, crossed the center line and collided head on with the squad car.

Brownton City Council to discuss RS Fiber at special meeting

The Brownton City Council has set a special meeting for Monday, Jan. 26, at 6 p.m., to discuss the RS Fiber project.

Mark Erickson, currently on a one-year leave of absence as the Winthrop city administrator to focus on the fiber project, will be present to share information with the Council and to answer questions its members may have.

The Glencoe-Silver Lake Lincoln Junior High geographic bee is set for Monday, Jan. 26, at 7 p.m., in the high school media center.

18 of the top seventh- and eighth-grade geography students from Lincoln Junior High School will be competing.

Violet Gertrude Schramm, 90, of Plato, died Friday, Jan. 16, 2015, at Glencoe Regional Health Services Long Term Care.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Jan. 20, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Plato. The Rev. Tyson Mastin officiated. Cheryl Andrix was the organist. Soloist Dennis Wolter sang “Amazing Grace.” Congregational hymns were “Just As I Am,” “For All the Saints” and “Abide With Me.”

Claire Theresa Murray, 85, of Glencoe

Claire Theresa (Kerby) Murray, 85, of Glencoe, died Monday, Jan. 12, 2015, at her home.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Friday, Jan. 16, at Church of St. Pius X in Glencoe with the Rev. Paul Schumacher officiating. Sue Mielke was the organist and Kelly LeCrone was the song leader. Musical selections were “Here I Am, Lord,” “Eyes Have Not Seen,” “Hail Mary, Gentle Woman” and “Amazing Grace.”

Frances Katherine Ewert, 99, Stewart

Frances Ewert, 99, of Stewart, died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2015, at Glencoe Regional Health Services long-term care.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, Jan. 19, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Stewart with the Rev. Jerry Meidl officiating. Amanda Hendrickson was the organist and the song leader.
Pallbearers were Jack Ewert, Jerry Ewert, Dick Ewert, Larry Ewert, Scott Willman and Kurt Kalenberg. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Myron H. Michaletz, 83, of Glencoe

Myron H. Michaletz, 83, of Glencoe, died Thursday, Jan. 15, 2015, at Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia.
The funeral service was held Sunday, Jan. 18, at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glencoe, with interment following in the First Lutheran Cemetery in Glencoe.

Son born to Brownton couple

Troy Uecker and Danielle Battcher of Brownton announce the birth of a son, Christian Daniel Uecker, born Monday, Dec. 29, 2014, at Glencoe Regional Health Services. Christian weighed 8 pounds, 2 ounces, and was 20 inches in length. He joins siblings Kaitlyn, Jaden, Evan and Darrin. Grandparents are Mark and Mary Battcher of Plato and Reggie and Kathy Uecker of Brownton. Great-grandparents are Margaret Koester of Glencoe and Merl and Jodell Battcher of Arlington.

Girl for Arlington couple

Brent Lindemann and Amanda Schmidt of Arlington announce the arrival of a daughter, Aaliyah Grace Lindeman, born Monday, Dec. 29, 2014, at Glencoe Regional Health Services. Aaliyah weighed 8 pounds and was 191⁄2 inches in length at birth. She joins a sister, Audrey. Grandparents are Larry and Edna Lindemann of Arlington and Tracy Schmidt of Plato. Great-grandmothers are Alice Friauf of Glencoe and Mildred Lindemann of Gaylord.
