Things I do get in my junk e-mail

Sometime late Thursday afternoon, I realized I had not received a single e-mail since early that morning.
Which is odd for me, because I’ve somehow managed to get myself on every mailing list under the sun, from clothing stores to a tire store to a variety of health websites, to a sporting goods store. Like my snail mail, most of it is non-personal junk mail.
But still, I missed the steady stream e-mail and began in my own, limited techie way to try to resolve the issue which, of course, I didn’t, because I’m not as techie as I like to think I am.

Get in shape? Well, not in this weather

Like most middle-aged people, I’ve made sporadic attempts to “get in shape” and “drop a few pounds.” (And by a few, I mean 20).
I’ve tried everything from long-distance bike riding to Wii Fit and Tae Bo.
A few years ago, I read somewhere that the best “fat-burning” exercises are those in which you bear your own body weight, such as walking or running, as opposed to swimming or bicycling.

The Early Childhood Learning Center, the new addiiton onto the Lincoln Junior High School, held an open house on Friday, and the attendance by young families as well as the curious was impressive. ECFE/SE and Learning Readiness staff eagerly showed off their new rooms that were opened to students in early January. Above, teachers had an opportunity to talk with parents about how the rooms are being used, while youngsters got some hands-on experience, like Bentlee Ondrachek and his mother, Nicole, at right.

Football played the right way; may best team win

To the Editor:
Just a note from a high school football fan/father. My two younger sons  play for St. Croix Lutheran High School, and my guess is our teams will meet in the near future.
While we’ve never played GSL before during my sons’ time at SCLHS, nonetheless, we hold your team in very high regard.
Our coach often holds GSL as an example of how high school football should be coached and played. Play hard, play tough, be disciplined, assignment sure on blocking, sound gap defense, and RUN the ball.
