Minnesota House votes
to revamp MSFA
Our View: The move will help
to restore public trust
Scandals involving public officials are often the headline
news in the various media outlets across the state. When that
happens, members of the two major political parties either
pounce on the wrongdoing to gain public support or distance
themselves from the individual to minimize damage.
An excellent example of this recently occurred when news
broke that two members, chairperson Michele Kelm-Helgen
and executive director Ted Mondale, of the Minnesota
Sports Facilities Authority (MSFA) resigned after two
months of public criticism over their use of two luxury
suites for friends and family at Minnesota Vikings games
and concerts. The criticism further intensified when it was
reported that Kelm-Helgen moved ahead of longtime
Vikings season ticket holders and acquired choice seats in
the U.S. Bank Stadium for herself, friends and family mem-
bers. The seats also gave them priority rights for other stadi-
um events.
Since Kelm-Helgen and Mondale were appointed by DFL
Governor Mark Dayton, members of the Republican Party
