Adult crime drops slightly in the county
McLeod County Attorney Mike Junge reported a slight decrease in adult criminals charged in 2014 compared to the previous year while presenting part of his annual report at the May 5 McLeod County Board of Commissioners meeting.
He gave part of the report for the benefit of students from the county attending the meeting. The rest will be presented to the board at its next meeting.
“What I often say is our job involves drugs, sex, booze and gambling,” said Junge about how 95 percent of charges are found in these areas.
The total number adult felony and gross misdemeanor charges in 2014 was 258, compared to 268 in 2013. There were 147 males and 49 females charged.
“When I started in the 1980s, it was 90 percent male and 10 percent female,” adds Junge. “Why the change? There is more equality financially and more women are addicted to drugs.”
