Ag Center patrons OK merger with UFC
The Brownton Co-op Ag Center had its final annual meeting in its 100-year history as an independent cooperative Friday as patrons approved a merger with United Farmers Cooperative (UFC), headquartered in Winthrop.
UFC, which built a grain-handling facility just north of the Ag Center about three years ago, is also proposing to build a new fertilizer plant on the same property.
The merger will allow the proposed project to utilize the Ag Center buildings and equipment, with the Ag Center being the customer center for the new enterprise and a new facility be the fertilizer plant.
