Casket bearers will be David Maxwell, Jane Maxwell, Julie Dahlke, Michelle Maxwell, Joshua Maxwell, Jenn Maxwell, Melissa Maxwell and Tom Siewert.
Interment will be in the St. Matthew’s Lutheran Cemetery, Penn Township.
Alice Bertha Clara (Rickert) Grunewaldt was born Feb. 29, 1912, in Round Grove Township, rural Brownton, to Otto and Clara (Schlueter) Rickert. She was baptized as an infant on March 10, 1912, at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Penn Township by the Rev. George Diemer. She received her Christian education at a parochial school in Brownton and was confirmed in her faith on April 2, 1925, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Brownton by the Rev. Henry Weerts.
She was united in marriage to Arnold Grunewaldt on Sept. 2, 1936, by the Rev. Henry Weerts at Immanuel  Lutheran Church in Brownton. One daughter, Marlys, was born to this union. The couple made their home on Mr. Grunewaldt’s family farm by Winthrop. Mrs. Grunewaldt worked side by side with him. Mr. Grunewaldt died on April 26, 1972. They shared 36 years of marriage. After his death, she continued to farm alongside her daughter and son-in-law. Eventually, she moved in with and lived with her daughter and her family. After she retired from farming, she was employed at Green Giant in Glencoe and Arlington for several years. She then worked at Hands, Inc., in Winthrop for over 25 years, finally retiring at the age of 90. She became a resident of Oak Terrace Health Care Center in Gaylord in May 2014, when she needed assistance with her daily care.
She and her husband were members of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Mountville, for several years, and then joined St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church, Penn Township. She was active in the circle and was the oldest member of St. Matthew’s until it closed in 2015. She then became a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Brownton.
Mrs. Grunewaldt loved playing cards, gardening, fishing, traveling and, last but not least, dancing. Every weekend she was likely to be found at some polka dance. Her 100th birthday was celebrated with a polka party. She enjoyed traveling in her 70s with a group of friends all over the United States, and also toured Germany, Switzerland, Australia, Mexico and Canada. She loved to spend time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and cherished each moment with them.
She will always be remembered for her love of dancing and her hard work.
She is survived by her daughter, Marlys Dahlke of Litchfield; grandchildren, Jane (David) Maxwell and Julie Dahlke, all of Litchfield; great-grandchildren, Michelle Maxwell (boyfriend Tom) of Minneapolis, Joshua (Jenn) Maxwell of Glencoe and Melissa Maxwell of Minneapolis; sisters-in-law, Lucille Rickert, Gladys Rickert, Alno Rickert and Hazel Grunewaldt; many relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Otto and Clara (Schlueter) Rickert; husband, Arnold Grunewaldt; son-in-law, Kenneth Dahlke; sisters, Hilda Zieman, Edna Radtke, Ruth Bussler and Lorrinda Rickert; brothers, Vernon Rickert, Lawrence Rickert and Orlan Rickert; sister-in-law, Luella Ayer; and brothers-in-law, Walter Radtke, Adolph Bussler, Robert Zieman, Alvin Grunewaldt and Milo Ayer.
Arrangements are with the Dalin-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Winthrop. Online obituaries and guest book are available at www.hantge.com.
