Alvin Rudolph Schiroo, 79, Glencoe

Alvin Rudolph Schiroo, 79, of Glencoe, died Saturday, March 29, 2014, at Glencoe Regional Health Services long-term care unit.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 1, at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glencoe with the Rev. Ronald Mathison officiating.
Dawn Wolter was the organist, and the congregational hymns were “Beautiful Savior,” “What a Friend We Have in Jesus,” “Amazing Grace” and “I Know That My Redeemer Lives.”
Honorary pallbearers were Kathy Schiroo, Jolene Phillips, Nina Appleby and Serianna Rockswold. Pallbearers were Eric Patino, Steven Schiroo, Kevin Schiroo, Benjamin Rockswold, Justin Schiroo, Tyler Schiroo, Mike Phillips and Richard Appleby. Interment was in the church cemetery.
Alvin Rudolph Schiroo was born Sept. 2, 1934, in New Auburn Township, Glencoe. He was the son of Rudolph and Ella (Brelje) Schiroo. He was baptized as an infant on Sept. 16, 1934, by the Rev. Ernest Kolbe and was confirmed in his faith as a youth on March 21, 1948, by the Rev. Alf. R. Streufert, both at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glencoe. He received his education at Country Schools 24 and 38 and completed his education at First Lutheran School in Glencoe.
On June 10, 1955, Mr. Schiroo was united in marriage to Laura Anne Jensen by the Rev. H.A. Bode at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glencoe. Their marriage was blessed with four children, David, Duane, Bruce and Ron. The couple purchased a farm in Glencoe Township and later purchased Mr. Schiroo’s family farm in New Auburn Township. They resided on the farm in Glencoe Township. They shared 56 years of marriage.
Mr. Schiroo enjoyed farming and every aspect of it. He also loved to travel to local farms and would custom butcher. He was a lifetime member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glencoe, where he belonged to the Men’s Club and served as a deacon and as an usher.
Mr. Schiroo enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and was proud of each and every one of them. He had a great sense of humor and enjoyed teasing people. He also enjoyed polka music and polka dancing. Mr. Schiroo liked to keep his lawn mowed and to attend auctions. In his later years, he enjoyed watching wrestling and Bingo was his new passion.
He is survived by his children and their spouses, David and Lori Schiroo of Glencoe, Duane and Rosa Schiroo of Glencoe, Bruce and Kristi Schiroo of Plato and Ron and Becky Schiroo of Glencoe; grandchildren, Kathy Schiroo, Jolene (Michael) Phillips, Eric Patino, Steven Schiroo, Nina (Richard) Appleby, Kevin Schiroo and his fiancée, Justina Cline, Benjamin Rockswold, Serianna Rockswold, Justin Schiroo and Tyler Schiroo; brother, Kenneth (Joyce) Schiroo; brother-in-law, Charles (Renae) Jensen of Glencoe; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Rudolph and Ella Schiroo; wife, Laura Schiroo;  and brother-in-law, Elvin Jensen Jr.
