Another WCC West title in sight for spikers

Two more big circuit wins last week pushed the Glencoe-Silver Lake volleyball team's record to 17-5 overall, with the Panthers still boasting an unblemished 5-0 mark in Wright County Conference West play.

GSL first disposed of WCC West rival Annandale in a three-game sweep (25-21, 26-24, 25-17) on Tuesday, Oct. 4, finishing off the Panthers' annual "Dig Pink" cancer awareness/fundraiser night with a victory.

Rhyan Herrmann paced the victors with 15 kills in the contest, while also logging 12 digs. Fellow middle hitter Maddie Monahan had 12 kills and nine digs. Leading the team with 18 digs was defensive specialist Molli Cacka, while setter Jessica Lemke was tops on the team with 23 assists.

GSL came out a little bit behind the eight ball in its conference follow-up against Watertown-Mayer on Thursday, Oct. 6. After eking out a 25-23 win in Game 1 – rallying from a late 23-22 deficit to do so – the Panthers dropped Game 2 by a score of 25-19.

However, after a short break for a hitting contest featuring many of the fans in attendance, GSL got down to business.
