Ardell Herman Wolter, 90, of NYA
Ardell H. Wolter, 90, of Norwood Young America (NYA), died Monday, Sept. 8, 2014, at his home.
The funeral service was held Friday, Sept. 12, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in NYA with the Rev. David Winter officiating.
Pallbearers were his grandsons, Alan Rolf, Daniel Rolf, Mark Rolf, Troy Herrmann, Brian Herrmann, Matthew Herrmann, Chad Feltmann, Christopher Feltmann, Corey Feltmann and Jeffrey Wagner.
Interment was in the St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery.
Ardell Herman Wolter was born Feb. 28, 1924, in Minneapolis, the son of J. Peter and Margaretha (Engelmann) Wolter. He was baptized March 23, 1924, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Plato by the Rev. R. Zwintscher. He was confirmed in the faith on April 10, 1938, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Plato by the Rev. R.L. Ehlen. He attended St. John’s Parochial School and District 19 public school.
On Sept. 3, 1947, Mr. Wolter was united in marriage to Erna Marie Rolf at Zion Lutheran Church in Benton Township by the Rev. R.W. Rottmann. The couple rented farms in the NYA and Cologne areas until purchasing their own farm west of NYA in 1962. They retired from farming in 1998 and moved to town.
Mr. Wolter was a farmer who took pride in raising quality dairy animals and also enjoyed working with his horses. In later years, he enjoyed driving his horses and buggy in local parades and was a member of the North Star Saddle Club. He was a very active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, where he served as an elder, trustee and held positions on the stewardship and finance committees. He also was a longtime member of the church choir.
He always enjoyed old-time music and taught himself to play the concertina at an early age. After his retirement, he began playing again, wrote his own music and enjoyed playing for others. He was a member of the Czech Area Concertina Club and the Minnesota Concertina Club.
Mr. Wolter was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather. He was always interested in his family’s activities.
In 2012, he moved to Peace Villa, where he resided until just recently when he moved into the Harbor.
